Post some cool lyrics

I'm sure some of you put this together before now, but I just finished reading 1984 for the first time, and I caught a Rage lyric in there.
"Who controls the past now controls the future
Who controls the present now controls the past."
Didn't make a lot of sense to me before reading that book, but I guess I get it now. Just thought it was interesting that George Orwell ripped off Zach de la Rocha!

there's an old dirt road in the mountains of my mind i walk down just for fun
cut off jeans and bare feet, skin browned by the sun

there's a garden out back with food for your body and mind and a porch up front that holds up the sky for sippin' in the evening time

not completely desperate, unable to check out early
you left a do not disturb sign on lifes door

you can't fake, cause you can't act, your camouflage is tough
don't you know you're getting good hiding from yourself

you're lost today, in the same place you were yesterday, even though your wheels keep on rolling

you're lost today in the same place you were yesterday... lines on your face boy, don't you know that they're showing

not afraid of being alone, guess that makes me a loner
sometimes its inside of those places i can find myself

told you not to try so hard, soon you wont try at all
you didn't learn to walk my friend before you learned to crawl

you're lost today, in the same place you were yesterday, even though your wheels keep on rolling

you're lost today in the same place you were yesterday... lines on your face boy, don't you know that they're showing

well, i'm lost today in the same place i wasyesterday... lines on my face boy, don't you know that they're showing

Nice find I never knew those lyrics were from that.

She said don't bother coming home.
By the time you get here I'll be long gone.
There somebody new and he sure ain't no rodeo man(no homo).

He said I'm sorry it's come down to this.
There's so much about you that I'm gonna miss, but it's alright baby if I hurry I can still make cheyenne.
Gotta go now baby if I hurry I can still make Cheyenne.

This old porch is just a weathered, grey haired 70 years of Texas. He's doing all he can, not to give in to the city. And he always takes the rent late, as long as I run his cattle. He picks me up at dinner time, and I listen to him rattle. He says the brazos still runs muddy, like it's run all along. Never been any cane to grind, the cottons all but gone. And that Chevrolet pick up truck, hell she was something back in 60, but won't nobody listen to him, cause they all think he's crazy.

This old porch is just a Long time waiting and forgetting. Remembering the coming back, and not crying bout the leaving. And remembering the falling down and the laughter, and the curse of luck from all those sons a b------ that said we'd never get back up.

[sample: "Get off my case, motherfuhker."]

The sun burns in the stranger's eyes
Just one tear before he dies
Black mass can't ease the pain
There's nothing here, there's nothing sane

I hope this fuhkin' world fuhkin' burns away
And I'd kill you all if I had my way

But I'll live forever, questions curse me why
Oh Lord above, why won't you let me die

"I can learn to resist
Anything but temptation
I can learn to coexist
With anything but pain

I can learn to compromise
Anything but my desires
I can learn to get along
With all the things I can't explain

I can learn to resist
Anything but frustration
I can learn to persist
With anything but aiming low

I can learn to close my eyes
To anything but injustice
I can learn to get along
With all the things I don't know

You can surrender
Without a prayer
But never really pray
Pray without surrender

You can fight
Without ever winning
But never ever win
Without a fight

I can learn to resist
Anything but temptation
I can learn to coexist
With anything but pain

I can learn to compromise
Anything but my desires
I can learn to get along
With all the things I can't explain"

Resist by Rush

"do you see the way that tree bends?
does it inspire?
leaning out to catch the sun's rays
a lesson to be applied
are you getting something out of this all encompassing trip?
you can spend your time alone, redigesting past regrets, oh
or you can come to terms and realize
you're the only one who can't forgive yourself, oh
makes much more sense to live in the present tense
have you ideas on how this life ends?
checked your hands and studied the lines
have you the belief that the road ahead ascends off into the light?
seems that needlessly it's getting harder
to find an approach and a way to live
are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
you can spend your time alone redigesting past regrets, oh
or you can come to terms and realize
you're the only one who cannot forgive yourself, oh
makes much more sense to live in the present tense."

Present Tense by Pearl Jam

I can't say goodbye to you for good,
And I know you would stay if you could.
There must be a part of you that you still need to find.
I'll be waiting for you if you ever change your mind.

'Tilt he 31st of April,
'Til it snows here in July,
'Til the seas take California,
And wash up on the Great Divide.
Even when that happens, if you're not back I know,
I'll still be waiting for you, on the Coast of Colorado.

Still be waiting for you, on the Coast of Colorado.

Tropical Hot Dog Night
Like two flamingoes in a fruit fight
Ev’ry colour of day
Whirlin’ around at night
I’m playin’ this music
So the young girls will come out
To meet the monster tonight
Tropical Hot Dog Night

Like two flamingoes in a fruit fight
I don’t wanna know ‘bout wrong or right
I don’t want to know
- I’m anywhere tonight

Tropical Hot Dog Night
Like two flamingoes in a fruit fight
Like steppin’ out of a triangle
Into striped light
Striped light, striped light
Tropical Hot Dog Night
- Everything’s wrong, at the same time it’s right

The truth has no patterns for me tonight
I’m playing this music so the young girls will come out
To meet the monster tonight
Meet the monster tonight

There is no pain you are receding.
A distant ship smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move, but I can't hear what your saying.

When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse. Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look, but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown the dream is gone.

If I get back home to Houston
I'm gonna tip my hat and cry.
When I left I was a younger man,
too proud to say goodbye.
I'm gonna wake up in the mornin
with a conscience ten feet tall.
I'm gonna lay my head down wiser
or I won't lay down at all.

"How are you chasin' dreams when what's tangible still outruns ya?"

"I'd rather take the time to burn every last bridge I've ever crossed beneath the sun than live my life knowin' you may one day follow me over one."

"In a city of garbage, tryin' to reap the harvest
Adaption is the trap in which the artist meets the forest
Swing your little axe or be an oak tree if you can
Either way, adapt to circumstance or play your final hand."

"I'll be the only ironclad oracle in a city full of tin"

Well that is that and this is this.
You tell me what you want and I'll tell you what you get.
You get away from me. You get away from me.
Collected my belongings and I left the jail.
Well thanks for the time, I needed to think a spell.
I had to think awhile. I had to think awhile.

Well that is that and this is this.
Will you tell me what you saw and I'll tell you what you missed,
when the ocean met the sky.
You missed when time and life shook hands and said goodbye.
When the earth folded on itself.
And said "Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell
are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath."
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death?
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death?

There ain't a lot that you can do in this town
You drive down to the lake and then you turn back around
You go to school and you learn to read and write
So you can walk into the county bank and sign away your life.

Now I work at the fillin' station on the interstate
pumping gasoline and countin' out-of-state plates
They ask me "How far into Memphis Son?" and "Where's the nearest beer?"
And they don't even know that there's a town around here.

Someday I'm finally gonna let go
Cause I know there's a better way
And I wonder what's over that rainbow
I'm gonna get out of here someday... someday.....

Now my brother went to college cause he played football
But I'm still hangin' round cause I'm a little bit small
But I got me a '67 Chevy she's low and sleek and black
Someday I'll put her on that interstate and never look back.

Someday I'm finally gonna let go
Cause I know there's a better way
and I wonder what's over that rainbow
I'm gonna get out of here someday. I'm gonna get out of here someday.
.....someday...

Steve Earle

You could fill this whole thing with his. My personal favorite:

Everyone in Nacadoches knew Tom Ames would come to some bad end
Well the sheriff had cought him stealin' chickens and such
by the time that he was ten
And one day his daddy took a ten dollar bill
and he tucked it in his hand
He said I can tell you're headed for trouble son
and your momma wouldn't understand

So he took that money and his brothers old bay
and he left without a word of thanks
Fell in with a crowd in some border town
and took to robbin' banks

Outside the law your luck will run out fast
and a few years came and went
'Till he's trapped in an alley in Abilene
with all but four shells spent

And he realized prayin' was the only thing
that he hadn't ever tried
Well he wasn't sure he knew quite how
but he looked up to the sky

Said you don't owe me nothin' and as far as I know
Lord don't owe nothin' to you
And I ain't askin' for a miracle Lord
just a little bit of luck will do

And you know I ain't never prayed before
but it always seemed to me
If prayin' is the same as beggin' Lord
I don't take no charity

Yeah but right now Lord with my back to the wall
Can't help but recall
How they nearly hung me for stealin' a horse
in Fort Smith Arkansas

Judge Parker said guilty and the gavel came down
just like a cannon shot
And I went away quietly
and I began to file and plot

Well they sent the preacher down to my cell
He said the Lord is your only hope
He's the only friend that you gonna have
When you hit the end of Parker's rope

Well I guess he coulda' kept on preachin' 'till Christmas
but he turned his back on me
I put a home made blade to that golden throat
and asked the deputy for the key

Well it ain't the first close call I ever had
I'm sure you already know
I had some help from you Lord and the devil himself
It's been strictly touch and go

Yeah but who in the hell am I talkin' to
there ain't no one here but me
Then he cocked both his pistols and he spit in the dirt
and he walked out in the street

Women think I'm tasty, but they're always trying to waste me
and make me burn my candle right down,
but baby, I dont need jewels in my crown.

Cuz all you women is lowdown gamblers, cheating like I don't know how
But baby, baby there is a fever in the funk house now,
This low down *****in got my poor feet a itching,
Don't you know the duece is still wild.

Always in a hurry, I never stop to worry,
don't you see time flashing by.
Honey, I got no money,
I'm all sixes, sevens, and nines.
Say now baby I'm the rank outsider,
you can be my partner in crime.

But baby, I can't stay.
You got to roll me,
call me the Tumbling Dice.

Ooh yeah

Police and thieves in the street, ooh yeah
Fighting the nation with their guns and ammunitions
Police and thieves in the streets, ooh yeah
Scaring the nation with their guns and ammunitions

From Genesis to Revelation, yeah
The next generation will be, hear me

All the crimes committed day by day
No one try to stop it, in anyway
All the peacemakers turn war officers
Hear what I say

Police and thieves in the street, ooh yeah
Fighting the nation with their guns and ammunition
Police and thieves in the street, ooh yeah
Scaring the nation with their guns and ammunitions

Oh yeah
Oh yeah

All the crimes committed in day by day
No one try to stop it, in anyway
All the peacemakers turn war officers
Hear what I say

Police and thieves in the street, ooh yeah
Fighting the nation with their guns and ammunitions
Police and thieves in the street, ooh yeah
Scaring the nation with their guns and ammunition

Police and thieves
Police, police and thieves
Police and thieves
Police, police and thieves

Making love in the afternoon
with Cecilia up in my bedroom

I got up to wash my face
when I come back to bed
someone's takin' my place.

Oh Cecilia, you're breakin' my heart,
You're shakin' my confidence daily

Oh Cecilia, I'm down on my knees
I'm beggin' you please to come home.

Old Friends,
Old Friends,
Sat on their park bench like bookends
A newspaper blowin' through the grass
Falls on the round toes
Of the high shoes
Of the old friends

Old Friends,
Winter companions the old men
Lost in thier overcoats
Waiting for the sunset
The sounds of the city sifting through trees
Settle like dust
On the shoulders of the old friends

Can you imagine us years from today
Sharing a park bench quietly?
How terribly strange to be seventy...

Old Friends,
Memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fears

(Musical Interlude)

A time it was
It was, a time it was,
A time of innocence
A time of confidences

Long ago, it must be
I have a photograph
Preserve your memories
They're all that's left you

Old Friends/Bookends - Simon & Garfunkle

Flew in from Miami Beach BOAC
Didn't get to bed last night
Oh, the way the paper bag was on my knee
Man, I had a dreadful flight
I'm back in the USSR
You don't know how lucky you are, boy
Back in the USSR, yeah

Been away so long I hardly knew the place
Gee, it's good to be back home
Leave it till tomorrow to unpack my case
Honey disconnect the phone
I'm back in the USSR
You don't know how lucky you are, boy
Back in the US
Back in the US
Back in the USSR

Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out
They leave the west behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
They Georgia's always on my my my my my my my my my mind
Oh, come on
Hu Hey Hu, hey, ah, yeah
yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm back in the USSR
You don't know how lucky you are, boys
Back in the USSR

Well the Ukraine girls really knock me out
They leave the west behind
And Moscow girls make me sing and shout
They Georgia's always on my my my my my my my my my mind

Oh, show me round your snow peaked
mountain way down south
Take me to you daddy's farm
Let me hear you balalaika's ringing out
Come and keep your comrade warm
I'm back in the USSR
Hey, You don't know how lucky you are, boy
Back in the USSR
Oh, let me tell you honey
