1. To anyone saying we're better without Scotty ala Tyler Smith last year. We win this game by ten points if he's here tonight at 100% health.
2. Tonight we saw why Tobias should stay for another year. Not only did he miss two clutch free throws, he let the referees get into his head. His reactions were exactly like you'd expect a freshman to have, but far from the calm demeanor we are used to.
3. Our player best suited for the next level at this point is Cameron Tatum. He was asked to step up for two games, and he did exactly as he was supposed to do. When your 3rd leading scorer can turn a switch and drop 18 against the best team in your conference, you have someone ready to contribute anywhere.
4. Skylar McBee has to learn to stop playing like he's the best player on the floor because he hits 2/5 three pointers. He's there to shoot and hit. Because you hit 2 doesn't mean jack 5 more (especially if you miss them all).
5. We looked like the Bruce pearl teams of old, playing good in bounds defense and turning the ball over consistently.
6. The refs tonight we're perhaps the 2nd worst I've seen in a while (all around). At this point I would consider a straight up trade with C-USA and think we'd barely lose anything.
7. We're going to miss Pearl next year. As limited as he is on offense, he does things that just defy the laws of basketball, he makes big plays happen out of nothing. If they are good or bad for the team is entirely up to luck.
8. Florida should beat Kentucky tonight, I hope they do as it gives us a solid shot to be a #2 seed at the least in the east.
9. We should lose our next two games and possibly win 4 more after that. Bama should win 5 of their next 6. They are a very good, athletic and defensive style team. If I'm any top ten team except for pitt, I wouldn't want to play a team like bama in the first round, because win or lose they will knock you around.
10. Tony Mitchell is proof that it's who finishes a game and not who starts it, although I would wager he starts in his next game after lighting us up tonight.

Finally, This was Tony Jones' audition for a head coaching job anywhere else basically. He had it rough early on, losing two close games, then hit stride. Tonight was his final exam, and when it came down to it, he just couldn't get it done. He learned nothing from his 8 game stint as a head coach for the reason that his result in his first game was nearly identical in every way to his last. Bad last second plays cause a close loss we should have won.

Cameron Tatum's NBA prospects are marginally better than Tyler Summitt's.

I agree with everything except #1. I think he might make a difference (with free throw shooting perhaps), but we aren't beating Bama today by 10. Hopson doesn't make that big of a difference. Guys stepped up and scored today (Tatum, Harris, even McBee). It was just bad turnovers (including bad shot selection) and fouls that cost us the game. Two things that Hopson doesn't exactly excel at either.

This was mostly a knock on Tobias and Scotty instead of saying Cameron is going to the NBA. Tobias had a very good game, but it doesn't matter how good you play if you can't close it out.

it would have been difficult for even a 6th year senior to not let the refs get in his head after that pattern of calls against the vols.

I agree that Tobias needs to play better. He needs to hit more shots near the basket that he is missing right now, and he certainly needs to hit free throws late. I still think he is by far our best offensive weapon and he needs to get the ball, but I think we need to remember he is injured right now.

those series of calls were just horrible. if we get a couple of those call, we have a chance to take the lead, but as bad as we played, we still should have wone

all that really matters is we make the ncaa tourney. Think God for that. We are a team that can beat anybody and lose to a crap team. The seeding this year probably the higher the better considering we are three and 1 against top 25. I think the NCAA is waiting till March to announce their decision. Hopefully this team can fight through like always and make a good tourney run. The main thing is to close out the SEC strong.

That is where Pearl would have made a difference. I can't see him or any half decent coach not getting a technical or at least a time out at some point during that just to get his team back. Too bad he is at home for conducting himself like slime.

he was getting killed underneath and he still made some tough shots

I really don't see this team making the NCAA unless we have a huge run in the SEC tourney. I think we easily lose another 4 games.

I didn't say he was horrible tonight. He had a very good game. He still missed quite a bit of stuff around the basket that he needs to convert if he is going to be a big time player.

Tatum hit 0 big shots tonight, I repeat 0 and missed every 3 he took. Where was Tatum on the last few possessions? Nowhere to be found because he doesn't have the courage to take last second shots to win the game. At least McBee isn't afraid to shoot the freaking ball. This doesn't make Tatum a bad player, I like Tatum's game a lot, but he doesn't have a killers instinct and doesn't want the ball in his hands at the end of the game. Thought Tatum had a good game overall and played well defensively but he didn't hit big shots and he is nowhere near ready to play on the NBA level. Both Scotty and Tobias will be NBA players within the next 2 years and they both want the ball in their hands at the end of the game.

Also, we need Florida to lose tonight to UK. They have already gone to UGA and Knoxville and won both of those games. Florida will probably win the East if they win tonight and beat us in Gainesville. We will definitely beat UK at least once.

i was too hoping jones would give them the detroit treatment, but he stuck it through and coached the team back in the game after that, so what do i know.

I think people are missing my point here.

Tonight, tatum looked more like a person heading to the next level than tobias did. Yes tobias played well, but he missed a few close shots, missed crucial free throws, and got extremely emotional at the referees. No matter how bad refs get you can't let them affect you and you have to hit free throws. This is a good learning experience for him. Nowhere was I meaning tatum will get drafted over tobias or scotty.

I think anybody would have gotten that mad at the refs. They screwed him over like 4 straight times. Anyone with a pulse gets mad there. He didn't get a tech or anything so it's not like he lost his mind.

WRT #10, I don't know anything about Tony Jones or his coaching acumen, but I wouldn't pin our end of clock debacles on him (I'm also not sure how much interim coaching actually means). That's more or less a hallmark of this team.
