In front of a sold out crowd at West Point. At a service academy playing the triple option in the middle of the season? A lot of factors that could make this one scream trap game.

TD Wake on the first drive. 7-0 with 12 min left in the first.

Wake’s QB ended up on the ground every single pass and run of that drive though. It could be a long day for him.

Wake’s rough rush defense from last week showing up defending the option.

7-7 with 8 min left in the first quarter

Yeah the all caps were a bit much. Should have kept it normal capitalization. All caps never comes across well for anything on the internet.

I mean it could be a tougher game than WF wants, I’m not disagreeing. I flip flopped a bunch on this game in a pick em league. Just saw your original title then this one and had to give you crap for it.

And 3 plays later TD Wake Forest…after inexplicably fair catching the kickoff at their own 3 yard line.

Two 40+ yard passes in the same drive.

14-7 Wake Forest with 6:37 left in the first.

Not currently watching, why is it inexplicable? With the new rule, it’s becoming common

Army’s QB just came back from injury and he’s right back into the locker room. Changes this offense a bit,

He signaled for a fair catch on the kickoff, the ball bounced in front of him at the Wake Forest 5 or 6 yard line, and he ran up to grab the ball at the Wake Forest 3 and tried to return it from there.

(I presume he was possibly worried that the ball wouldn’t make it into the endzone for the touchback?)

By rule, the referees stopped the play and said that his action downed the ball at the Wake Forest 3, where the offense started. The way the announcers were describing it afterward, it sounded like a pretty big mistake at the time.

Wake gets the ball at around midfield but gets stopped going for it on 4th and 1 at the Army 45. And Army’s driving.

Also, handful of injuries so far. Army’s QB, one of Wake’s DBs, and another Wake defender all hurt in just the first quarter alone.

Maybe there’s some weird caveat to the fair catch rule then?

Maybe? I think it was mostly a matter of once a fair catch is signaled by a player, they’re being the first to possess the ball at all stops the play.
Yea, but college football has a rule that a fair catch on kickoffs inside the 25 is the same as a touchback. Ball spotted at the 25

Ok, interesting. I wonder if the ball bouncing in the field of play and his running up to take it nullified that?

Nice stop by Wake Forest. Army drove up the field but on 4th and 2 they stuffed the QB counter.

Give them a new set of downs? Army’s QB rushes 25 yards for another TD. 21-all with 3:17 left in the half.

Nice methodical drive by Wake Forest for a TD. 28-21 Wake Forest with 35 seconds left in the half. (Didn’t even have to use any of their timeouts.)

This is a good enough reason for canceling the Army Game. Not from the Trap Game aspect but from the Offense they run and have to prepare for prior to the game.
