I know his stats are wild... But for him, if he averages 250 yards and 3-4 touchdowns a game, he's got a shot at making it to New York. It will take very extraordinary circumstances for an NIU player to win the Heisman.

Name recognition:
Calvin Johnson - A lot
Robert Meachem - Not as much

Plus, CJ will be able to beat up on a weak ACC. Much as I hate to say it, Meach is bound to have a down game or two.

I can't argue with that. I just wanted to compare the two and then thought it was interesting enough to post.

But you do raise an interesting point, why isn't Meachem getting any name time?

CJ's stats wouldn't be that good if the Va Tech coaches decided to actually put a man or two on Johnson.

Picking big-time offensive players in the SEC is less of a science, and more just making a blind guess as to who can manage some big stats. If Meach can play big-time games against the Muts and the Creole Kittens, his Heisman bid will become legit.

CJ's good at making a defense pay for mistakes. The Hokie Pokies are gonna have to keep him wrapped up every single play, and they will get burned the first time they slip up and don't.

I was speaking in past tense, they just played this weekend. There were a couple of times when Johnson was wide open. I couldn't believe it. That's just about the only thing the Hokies had to really worry about.

GaTech got any more toughies left on the schedule? We'll see how he does against Georgia.

I don't even know and I'm too lazy to look it up right now. :) I'm sure GaVol can tell us without blinking.. I'll just wait for him.

They travel to Clemson 10/21, The "U" at home for HOMECOMING on 10/28, and at UGA after Thanksgiving.

If CJ can keep it up through that stretch, it will be something.

Steve Slaton is to Adrian Peterson as Ripple is to Chateau Lafitte de Rothschild.

Just the facts. Nutten but the facts. just wait till the end. The ESPN people want him in NYC, and we know how ESPN can slant things.

Stating that ESPN and CBS Sportsline have him in the top 5 is stating fact, but it doesn't mean he's deserving. Later today, I will name at least 10 QBs who are having better seasons.

But yes, I agree, he will end up in NYC on national media hype alone.

I can name 10 QB that are more deserving. That wasn't my post. I was not saying he was. Even Chris leak should be above him but he isn't as ESPN has it

Who was the last reciever to win the Heisman? I find it very hard to believe that Calvin Johnson will be invited to New York.
