Welp, espn kinda sees the rankings differently than everybody on here....

SEC Power Rankings: Week 4 - SEC Blog - ESPN

RANK
TREND
TEAM
13
Tennessee Volunteers
Record: 2-1 overall, 0-0 SEC
Previous ranking: 13
The SEC East is wide open this year, and after Saturday, Tennessee and Missouri are the only East teams left with unblemished conference records. The Volunteers, who were off in Week 4, will put that mark on the line Saturday when they travel to Georgia for their first SEC game of the season.

I think Arkansas is better than us right now. Big 10 Bret has a formidable running game and it looks to me like he's taking quicker strides with Arky than Butch is with UT. Jmo.

Thanks, I'm stationed at Camp Pendleton.

That's where my Dad started in WWII and he island hopped (humped) his way to Okinawa when it ended.

I took an easier route with the Air Force (ret) and now an Air Force Civil Servant at Peterson AFB, CO.

At this stage, I think Ark would be LSU & USCe. We could probably beat them with good passing and better overall defense but it would be a tough matchup.

why are so many people putting us ahead of Arkansas?

The question is why are so many putting us below them. The experts went googly over their win over T Tech.

Tech beat CENTRAL ARKANSAS by 7 and UTEP by even less. Wow impressive win.

I've seen Arkansas play.....I've seen Tennessee play......they won 3 games last year and we won 5 games last year and, imo, they are a better team right now.....hence, he's making quicker strides getting Arky back to relevance than Butch is with UT.

Arkansas would gash and put up 300+ yds rushing vs UT IMHO.

I doubt it, I think our defense has been playing very good against the run.

Arky is 1 dimensional like Jawja IMO. If you shut down their ability to make big running plays then you practically win.

And I like Arkansas too.

The way our D played against OU that's highly unlikely. Is their QB any good? They haven't played anyone decent. When they do they will stack thr box and their D still isn't very good.

I'm not bashing Arky or their coach. I simply got annoyed that the SECN went bananas over theit T Tech win and UT is an afterthought. I know, WIN and our problems go away.

Qb Allen completing 61%, 8 tds, 1 int, fifth highest rated at 162, only behind Sims, Wallace, Hill and Prescott. Yeah, he's playing well.

Against the one even halfway decent defense Arky has played (Auburn), he averaged 5 yards per attempt with two tds and a pick. I'm not saying we are better than Arky. I don't know for sure. But using passer ratings when by far the best defense he has faced was Auburn is a bit misleading.

He's a good player, strong arm, athletic. He's been very efficient, hasn't had to do too much because of their run game, which is probably 4th best in the SEC behind only Georgia, Auburn and Bama imo.

I'm not trying to disparage Worley at all because I think he's played very well to date. But he, like Allen has only played 1 good defense so far and Allen's been better than Justin any way you slice it.

We've not done anything to show that we belong ahead of LSU or Arkansas.

Agree. The only team we can confidently say that we're definitely better than at this point is Vandy. That's not being negative, it's just looking at the facts and data. We're improved for sure but by how much relative to the rest of the league? Now, go beat Georgia this week and everything changes. However, beating 2 mid major teams and losing by 24 pts to Oklahoma just doesn't scream that we belong in the top half of the league.

So far I have seen nothing that is terribly surprising.

MSU beating LSU was interesting. Miles tends to have a drop against a lessor opponent every year, but also tends to balance that out with beating a better team (last year he lost to Ole Miss but beat Auburn, for example).

Richt is similar but is trending negative.

Mizzou is getting too much credit for something that they do not do historically (significantly over-perform) while few are ignoring the indictment of their over-performance last year (Florida injured and hindered by Muschamp, UGA injured, UT in a down cycle, etc).

aTm is getting a ton of love for beating a lessor talented SCAR team. Winning by 100 points still just counts as one win, and Sumlin's Aggies tend to perform closely to talent averages.

Florida beating Kentucky and losing to Bama isn't a deviation from expectations nor is Arkansas losing to Auburn but beating Texas Tech.

It's a long season and the few exceptions (MSU over LSU and SCAR over UGA) tend to prove the rule.

Frankly it's hard to rank Tennessee right now since we havent played an SEC team. We will know much more about our ranking once we play UF and UGA

the arkansas love is hilarious to me. So they beat 3 bad teams. They have a legit run game but what else? poor defense, bad qb, no pass game, weak secondary, etc. That will get exposed here in the coming weeks IMO. Wait til these SEC defenses just crowd the box. i seriously doubt they will be able to play from behind. Texas Tech struggled to beat central arkansas and UTEP. People were calling that a big time win for arkansas.
