Then later to Malone, "They're trying to take your soul, Malone. This isn't back in Gallatin. Or Pearl-Cohn when they took your soul last year. Your soul's still on that field, Malone."

Hmmmm. I hope Butch channels his inner Bruce Campbell and swallows the soul of the Georgia defensive line.

THANKS FINGERS!

On a side note--- why the heck are we the only team in the country to not be able to kick a damn ball into the endzone!? I don't know why, but this really puzzles me and pisses me off at the same time.... good lord, every random game I catch, I see the kicker booting it... and they were not as highly touted as any of our kickers coming through here. It took Palardy 4 years to barely be able to do it, but I see kickers from Indiana to San Diego St be able to punch it.... OK, I'm done....
thanks

This has been raised 600 times in 600 ways. The answer you're going to get is a coach saying that they tell him to kick it higher and to the 5 than into the endzone and trust the coverage to stop them before the 25.

Question is why is he doing neither.

Dangerous if a Gurley is returning kicks.

I'm betting the kickers are too tight and are letting the atmosphere get to them a bit. They need to relax.

Never understood why we don't go get a soccer star to kick it in the stands every time on kickoffs.

The hard part is finding one that wants to do it. I played soccer with several guys that could easily put it in the endzone on kickoffs. Accuracy on field goals is a different story tho...

TIFIW, but I heard Dooley calls the sideline phone before Medley kicks off and tells him "Don't f*** it up."

I know he's a freshman and all but I can definitely see why everyone is so mad about. Wasn't he "the highest ranked kicker in the country" or one of them pretty high up there. And in every camp he would show out with how far he could kick it. We hear this every year with our kickers an then we can hardly ever put a ball past the 10-15.

I agree with whoever said they see it all the time in random games. Hell I will randomly see an fcs game on from some little school barely big enough to field a college team and they are kicking balls to the end zone with guys that basically just walked on and said I want to play.

have a different kicker for that and just go find a stone of a foot to boot the ball in the stands. We don't need to be playing games with trying to pin teams deep on a kickoff.

It sounds like the deep kicks are only making it to the 20-25. I hate to think about where a pooch kick would end up.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or serious here. Just in case you are serious, I think you might've misread. They're working on pooch kicking to avoid any opportunities for Gurley to return a kick.

There's just no way that our kickers are "kicking deep" to the 20-25. If you look at the first 3 games we've actually done a decent job with our kickoffs, especially the last 2 games since Bullock took over...

Vs Utah St (Medley)- 5 kickoffs, a couple of "pooch kicks" included, average kick to the USU 10 yd line, no touch backs

Vs ArkySt (Bullock)- 8 kickoffs, 2 touch backs, 3 kicks into the end zone that were returned, 3 other kicks to the 2, 5 and 6 yd line.

Vs Oklahoma (Bullock)- only 3 kickoffs, one to the 3 yd line, 1 touchback, one "pooch kick" to the 14 yd line.

If you weren't serious, apologies for missing the sarcasm.

It was sarcasm based on the post from Fingers.:hi:

Quote:
The three periods left open to the media were all special-teams based. During a kickoff drill, special teams coach Mark Elder expressed his displeasure with the distance of the kicks. “I need a kick that’s deeper than the freaking 22,” Elder said, using a microphone and loudspeaker. “That does not do us any good.”

Is squibbing just not cool anymore? it seems to me like the bouncing is nerve racking to a returner...they can't peek at the blocking because they are focused on the ball. I say squib to the corners and if it goes out of bounds screw it. Or is there an option on the penalty to make us back up and force a rekick?

Does anyone think maybe they are practicing short kicks to keep them away from Gurley?

Hell no. He'd just run up and field it with a head of steam. As was stated he's supposed to be "airing it out" to give the coverage unit time to force a fair catch. Teams only do this though if they cannot consistently boot it out of the endzone though.

Gotcha! Well lets hope they triage this issue before saturday! :focus:
