Practice #9 - scrimmage

“We still have to work our football conditioning, especially our defensive front and with the up-tempo offenses, it’s a great challenge because of the substitution game,” Jones said “Our defensive line has to be ready to play eight, nine, ten, 12 plays in a row without a break. The days of substituting freely on the defensive line are over with.” *Butch Jones

Up tempo has such a huge impact on the other team when executed well. Quality depth becomes more important IMO because the backups may get stuck out there for an extended time.

Coach BJ and his staff need to stop blaming the players and take ownership themselves!!!

What our young players are finding is you are creating habits and you are creating habits in your practice habits and those go to the game field. And even though they are highly recruited individuals, what you did in high school doesn't make it any difference at this level. It is all about how you practice, you play the way you practice. We have some individuals right now that are figuring that out. It stems in practice so when you come to the game field and it is a scrimmage or it is a game you rely on your habits that form in practice.

All the praise that Barnett is getting from the coaches is getting me pumped to see him play. Our defensive line has needed some difference makers over the last several years and I think Butch Jones is finally finding the right guys

In a related note: how many fans do you think come out for the open practice next Saturday? Last time was around 39,000
