Practice starts tomorrow...

A disciplined motion offense will be much, much better than the Junior pro level half-court crap we were doing last year. Martin will control tempo and we'll be much more efficient and turn the ball over less. While that might not equal tons more points, it will keep us in a lot of games and give us a chance to win.

You could really tell Pearl was VERY uncomfortable playing/coaching that half-court offense. It just wasn't his style, but it goes back to his recruiting. He kept recruiting athletes instead of basketball players and it made it dificult to coach his style.

That's right. Pearl was a good teacher of transition basketball; however, he recruited a roster full of guys who couldn't run it. And, he clearly can not coach a half-court slugfest.

Lofton, JaJuan, and Prince made Pearl's offenses look better than they really were IMO.

I bet it will be better than the 25 second passing drills used by last years offense.

I'm not gonna lie. This is the most excited I've been about a basketball team since Lofton's senior year. Call me out of my damn mind, but I think we will have a suprisingly good year. Defense in basketball wins championships. We will have that this year.

I said at minimum twenty times last year how much I missed J.P. Prince. I don't think we realized how important he was.

He made some bonehead plays at times, but his defense and the ability to attack the zone were huge in the E8 run. Might have been the most integral part of that team with Chism.

I saw JP on the field at the LSU game. Maybe he is helping with the practices.

Great info. Thanks for sharing.

Did you notice if Kenny had bulked up any? Looked like it watching video. Also, did you happen to notice Maymon shoot a freethrow and did it at least come close to going in lol?

He looked a little bigger but still pretty lean. I think he will do fine he seemed to be catching the ball really well in drills, even away from his body. He has some strong hands. I focused more on the pg's shooting free throws than I did Maymon so I don't know too much about that.

Golden looked much more aggressive in the practice, Woolridge practiced with the bigs in position drills. Cam Tatum and Jordan Mcrae seemed to be mroe vocal than I expected. Josh Richardson and Wes Washpun really impressed me. So did walk on Brandon Lopez. Washpun is quick, just needs to get better at finishing. He is already my favorite freshman. His defense is crazy. The team overall shot pretty well from outside, but Coach Martin had his shot falling. Made at least 5 shots from outside the arc while trying to get the team to practice rebounds.

Thanks for posting this. :hi: I can't get enough info leading up to the beginning of the season.

Thx. The only thing I'm worried about when it comes to Hall is his defense. If he can stay on the court and not put himself out with silly fouls, I'm happy!

Good basketball players make all offenses look good fellas. A good pg can make a bad offense look good, and a not so good pg can make a good offense run bad.
All of basketball works the same way. Not just pearls teams.
I look forward to seeing a new offense with the ball in the hands of a ballhandler with purpose. A good system and offense shouldn't require a pg to look to the coach for a play every time down the court. A good pg can handle it himself for most of the game. I expect big things from golden, though he didn't show me much last year.

He looked great at getting to the rim in practice. Much more aggressive than last year. I understand it was just situational stuff but he seemed to be one of the few consistent attackers. Josh Richardson was the other.
