I wondered with it being the first practice after break how it would be. CBJ kept saying their maturity level will show. Any word on that?

In the Circle of Life Drill:

...Marcus Jackson against Jordan Williams --- who was playfully told by Jones he was his "favorite player for the day." That battle lasted through two or three whistles.

Jakob Johnson took on Kenny Bynum, largely to a standstill though Johnson ultimately took Bynum to the ground. Woody Quinn apparently took on Derrick Brodus near the end of the Vols' circle work.

This was the most physical spring practice so far, per Jones. He wasn't happy with the first five practices, including spring.

JONES: I did think we made tremendous strides but nowhere near where we need to be.

JONES: We are going to win on our style of play.

JONES: We are not physical enough right now. In order to play our style of play, we have to be more physical

Freshman running back Jalen Hurd practiced in what looked like a new Speed Flex helmet from Riddell, similar to the ones Arkansas and Miami have shown off here and here.

A handful of players — Hurd, Marquez North and Josh Malone included — had new checkerboard decals on the back of their helmets.
