First test of the football year, big game for us (at the time), was against NC State. Their starting QB was Grayson McCall.
He had a concussion playing for Coastal Carolina, and another already this year. On October 3rd against Wake Forest, he was hospitalized after a shot to the head. In consultation and for his health, he's decided it's in his best interest to retire from playing. Prayers for him in his future endeavors.

What he, and Chadwell did at Coastal was remarkable. I'm from Socastee, right down the road from Coastal, and played my college soccer there. He will be considered the GOAT there for his hard-nosed play and bringing Coastal to where they are now. He was a good player!

Man that's a sad deal. I remember watching Coastal Carolina in the first game during the covid season and being so impressed with him. Wish him well in the future!

Yep it's really sad and don't know what the solution is, but ANY shot to the head (and I'm not talking about a slap) but a forceful shot to the head should result in an automatic suspension for some length. Some of these players (especially QB's) end up with permanent brain damage. That needs to stop and Now.

Something to consider. This is in one game:

"According to the data collected, the average G-force of 10 of the 62 hits recorded was akin to the force the lineman would experience if he crashed a car into a wall at 30mph."

I'm an engineer, and did a similar paper-napkin calculation of the forces in a car wreck compared to a football hit. It was in regards to a play that was 5 seconds after the whistle, a player decided to just blindside an opponent as retribution.
Came out with a very similar result. thanks for posting

I live in Murrells Inlet and go to a lot of CCU games. Grayson was a fun player to watch - I enjoy cheering on our local team. (And I keep dreaming one day we'll see a UT-CCU baseball series in Conway!)

I hate to hear that. I am wondering if he was 100% healthy all year. He really struggled on the field in several games (including ours).

Sorry to hear that for the guy, but also glad to see a young man be self-aware enough to realize that playing football or not playing is not the end of the world.
You can still be very actively engaged and make a very good living in football not playing.

Murrell's Inlet. I love that place, although I haven't been in a few years. Is Russell's still in business? They have the best fried oysters you can buy, and their hush puppies are legendary.

You originally from the area? I would love to see a TN-CCU baseball series. A home and home series. Unfortunately I think CCU will take a step back in baseball with Gilmore retiring. I would also like to see CCU come up to Neyland for a game.

Good call by he, his family, and the doctor. I'm sure most of us have friends (I have several) who were big time athletes and had to hang it up due to injuries. A couple were already playing professionally and some collegiately.... but when the unfortunate injury mandates calling it quits....the trauma of "walking away" stays with them for a long time...prob forever. In fact, I talked to two this morning...frustrated athletes who take it out on a golf ball now 😳 😳

Hate what happened to him. But praise and admire his good sense, stop before the damage gets worse. No amount of money is worth sacrificing your health and life.

I hope the young man recovers and has a long and happy life.
I hate to see what Tua is going to turn into. He is now a harm to himself and incapable of making the right decision and it can only end badly for him.

Russell's is still here and doing well! No shortage of good seafood and hushpuppies in the Inlet.

No - I'm originally from the Tri-Cities in Tennessee. I've been in SC for the past 11 years. I was born in the mountains but have always been an ocean girl at heart. But I bleed orange through and through!

I agree with you about Gilmore retiring. What a legend. Though I had the opportunity to have lunch with the new CCU athletic director recently, and he really impressed me. I think the university's sports programs will do well under his leadership. He's also a Tennessee guy - grew up in Gray and graduated from UT.

While he had a bad game thanks to our defense, the guy’s a winner. He will succeed in whatever the next chapter of his life holds.

I can remember many years ago you could stop at just about any restaurant in Murrell's and get a great meal.
I've thought for years the seafood in the Carolinas was superior to Florida...jmo
