Its a sad day with local military personnel in the Chattanooga area. I work fulltime AGR in Dayton and several of my buddies work at the armed forces reserve center recruiting office off lee highway. Simple fact is the recruiting stations and local national guard armories and reserve centers are soft target. We have no protection we cant even carry protection ( i do anyways since forthood incident and im foing it illegally) all we can do is keep the doors locked. Just fish in a barrel! Its bad when you have to worry about terrorist attacking you at your place of work. You leave Iraq or Afghanistan thinking your coming home to safe place and then you have to worry about this. Pray for the families of the soldiers who will not be coming home to there families in Chattanooga tonight.

I'm a Army Reservist in Memphis. This is one reason why they moved the Reserve Center on to the Millington Naval Base.

I too am AGR, & i totally agree with this. It's rediculous that we are not allowed to defend ourselves in situations like this unless we do it illegally. Along with what happened in Lobelville a few months ago, somebody needs to change this policy. How many more of us have to die or get injured before somebody realizes that we need to be able to handle ourselves? And while we're talking about this, how many more of these incidents have to happen before they realize that they need to start building these store fronts/ armories with bullet proof glass? The Marines that died today were sitting inside their office. The shooter never went inside.

Drove right by the police and news crews outside of the neighborhood this terrorist lived in. Just about 3 miles from my house. Never thought this would happen in Chattanooga. I pray that it never happens again in any community.

The youth director for my church lives just down the street from this guy, I do my jogging by the Marines Service center where the killings happened, and my best friends about one mile away. Happened about 6 miles from my home. I agree that we always pass it off as it "will never happen here," but this is just too surreal, and so sad and tragic.

I was in engineering school with the shooter. These terrorists are very good at hiding and blending in. You would never have thought this guy was capable of this. We've let our guard down on things like this so much it's ridiculous. Yet it's wrong to profile people? BS. We're handcuffing ourselves. Prayers to the families of the fallen.

There is a no firearms sticker on the front door of all recruiting or support facilities to my knowledge. There was definitely one at the facility in Chatanooga. I'm not positive but I believe it is something Clinton put in order and of course enforced by the Osama administration. God Bless the families.

So was it still in effect from 2000-2008?

It was actually part of a directive put into place by Donald J. Atwood under George H.W. Bush. Regardless of who put it into place its a ridiculous policy that needs to be changed.

-2009 Army Maj. Nidal Hasan opened fire at Ft. Hood and killed 13 people.

-2013 Washington Navy Yard Aaron Alexis fatally shoots twelve people and injured three others

Now we have more unarmed soldiers slain on US soil. Our service men and women need to be able to protect themselves wherever they are.
