I'd change that while you have time. Baylor will lose to Duke. K-State will lose to Xavier in the sweet 16.

I'd put the chances that both of those happen about the same as Tennessee's chances of making a Final Four run.

Duke is overrated, and Baylor can pound any team to a pulp. K-State isn't losing to the X. Xaiver is a good defensive ball club, but it's very conceivable that they lose to Minnesota in the first round.

Im taking talent over experience, but that's just me.

I would, as well. But when the team has a real dearth of experience, its tough to win 6 games in a row, under that pressure. Not saying it can't be done, but its tougher.

You really think the Big XII, other than Kansas, has better teams than the Big East this year? I dunno' ....

The matchups that the B12 teams get are pretty nice.

Here's who I've got K-State playing to get to the FF.

North Texas
BYU - That game might get a little rough for KSU, but I think they win.
Pitt - I just haven't really seen Pitt as a team that could make a really deep run.
Syracuse - Gotten a little cold the last few games. Plus, I don't know if Onuaku is going to be recovered enough in that game.

And, Baylor..........

Sam Houston State
Old Dominion - ODU upsets ND in the first round.
Villanova - Ehh, Nova's been suffering through something like the Cuse has been. Baylor wins by 5-10.
Duke - I see Baylor beating Duke by about the same margin as Nova.

Ok, I see. You are not necessarily saying that they are better, just have decent paths.

Oh, no doubt about it LG. I agree it will be a very tough road ahead but when you have a John Wall that has the talent to take over the game and a beast in the center then I give them the edge over exp. not to mention a pretty good coach (ok, the Cal homer is coming out :)) but anyways we will find out soon enough. Take care and good luck with your picks.

I think Kentucky will have a cold shooting day, I'm saying against a good West Virginia team, and their youth will have them too rattled to come back and win.

Mostly agree with you on the 5-12, although I have UTEP picked to defeat Butler.

This is a year in which I think there will be more 4-13 upsets than 5-12 (Siena over Purdue and Murray St. over Vandy, specifically).

Hmmm.... Siena and Murray St. over the teams UT went 0-3 against. Smells more like you HOPE instead of think.

First off, this has been the hardest bracket I have ever done...So many flip-flops, mulling over picks, etc. It's been crazy...

Final Four: Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Villanova.

1st Round Upsets: Murrary State over Vandy, Siena over Purdue, Old Dominion over Notre Dame, and Washington over Marquette.

Sweet Sixteen Surprise: Siena. They have experience, talent, and a good coach. They will beat Purdue, and they will have an excellent shot against TAMU (and I truly think they'll beat TAMU).

Watch Out For: Georgetown. If Greg Monroe realizes that he can totally dominate the tourney, G'Town has an excellent chance for the Final Four.

Don't Bet On: Duke. Can they make the Final Four? Yes. But they do not have enough scoring down low to win it all. Do not pick Duke to win it all.

Player to watch out for: Derrick Favors. I believe Favors will give Okie State problems in the first game, and then Ohio State in the second game. He has shown glimpses of what he can become. He has as much talent as anyone, but really wasn't put in the right spots to dominate. A lot of people know him, but if he can play like he did in the ACC Tourney, he can become a top-3 NBA pick.

Tennessee will...beat SDSU, but I don't think they can handle G'Town. If Scotty Hopson plays the ball he is capable of, UT has an excellent chance to do some damage.
Championship Game: Kansas over Kentucky.

Hmmm...an incredibly overrated Vanderbilt team up against a red-hot and underrated Murray State team. Remember that loss to Siena two years ago? Get ready for another one.

Why would we hope Purdue or Vandy gets upset. First, I couldn't care less if Purdue wins or loses. If Vandy gets beaten in the first round, it just looks bad on the SEC.

With respect to these picks, I like Purdue over Siena and Murray State over Vandy (unfortunately for the SEC).

Am I crazy for having KU vs Nova in the title. With Utah st losing to Nova in the regional final after beating U of L, L being fresh and vulnerable after beating Duke. ??

Unlike Vandy entitlement morons, we dont view UT as any sort of national measuring stick. Stop being super douche with your Vandy shiz. We know you spank to winning a couple ballgames, but beating UT, as you point out, was hardly of merit. Congrats on that and that turdhole gym of yours being your resume.

Since the better part of the discussion in this forum has been about predictions for this season, I figured I would hit you with some of my own. Feel free to add your own bold, not so bold, or plain ridiculous predictions.

1. There will be no 5-12 upset. Not this year. The 5s are too good, and while some of the 12s are underseeded, it won't make a difference after 40 minutes of play. UTEP and Cornell will scare Butler and Temple, respectively, but in the end the high seeds will advance. In fact...

2. There just won't be many upsets in the first round. BigPapaVol noted that there are a ton of vogue upset picks right now. The problem is, there have to be. Upsets are what make everyone tune in for the first round. Hell, upsets are what took me from a casual CBB fan to a rabid one. So, don't expect too much to come from anything beyond the 6-11 matchups, and don't expect too much deviation from the chalk on those either. Which brings us to...

3. Tennessee WILL beat SDSU. Everyone on this board knows I am not a homer, so you can get behind me on this. Bruce Pearl has lost once in the first round so far at UT, and that was last year to OSU. The team came off a bit of a let down then, but nothing like the absolutely embarrassing loss to Kentucky. You think this team doesn't want to do something in the tournament? I don't think the emotions are good for more than a fairly comfortable victory over the MWC tourney champ, although a Sweet 16 appearance is certainly doable, but we'll at least be watching Chism play two more games for the Vols.

4. The Big 12 will get at least three (and maybe 4) into the Elite Eight. Kansas, Kansas St, and one of Baylor and Texas A&M. Along with the Big East they will dominate the list of participants in the regional finals. Makes sense, they were easily the two best conferences in the country.

5. Kansas will win this tournament over Kentucky. Sorry guys, I know you hate it, but it's going to happen. Rematch between two of the best coaches in the land, and Bill Self will take part deux (albeit it with a little less drama than part one).

1. UTEP will take Butler down. book it.

2. i have old dominion over ND, siena over purdue, washington over marquette as my first round upsets. i however have a number of second round upsets that i believe will turn the tourny upsidedown.

3. +1

4. i have K state, KU, and Baylor all in the final four. i personally believe that while the big east is good and probably the second best conference, they are still vastly overrated.

5. +1

Good thread Emain.

Just for the hell of it, I took I flyer on Mizzou beating Clemson, and Minnesota taking down Xavier. Both are wildcard games, depending on which teams show up, IMO.

As for Kentucky, I actually have them getting beat by Wisconsin. (of course, I filled out multiple brackets, and have UK going all the way in one of them, out of principle) I just don't know if we can put together enough good basketball over 40 minutes against quality tournament teams. We have the ABILITY to win out with double digit wins in every game. We also have the ability (and much more probable) to take a dive. Heart and mind must be seperated here for me.

I will say this. If UK GETS to the title game, I think they win it.

I really think aTm can take Duke out, if Louisville doesn't do the job beforehand. I have Duke advancing to the elite 8, but I won't be the least bit surprised to see the Aggies roll.

Other predictions are......

1) Verne lundquist will butcher and mispronounce names all through the tournament.

2) Billy Donovans ass will be kissed by announcers, with references made to their back to back titles, all while watching Butler destroy them.

3) Levance Fields will somehow find a 13th year of eligibility and play for Pitt in the tournament. It seems wierd without him in the field.

4) I will drink many, many, beers.
