Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

Well, PL teams just went 0-4 in the win column of the first leg of CL knockouts. City get a draw. So officially 0-3-1.

What’s y’all’s predictions for going through to the round of 8?

I’ve got City as the only one going through. Chelsea/Tottenham only down 0-1 on aggregate and at home next match, but my prediction is it doesn’t matter and both either draw or lose at home.
While highly unlikely, I hope Liverpool make it through just to watch the media implode once again.

Maybe if the ref knew how to caution early instead of hiding his cards the first 40 minutes the game wouldn’t have escalated to that. So tired of watching PL refs lose control of a game because they don’t want to card early, even though they were yellow card worthy acts.

Apparently you missed Amadou Onana getting carded in the first 90 seconds yesterday.

And those instances don’t happen enough though. I get it, most refs don’t want to show a card early and instead give verbal warnings, but a yellow card foul is a yellow card foul no matter when it occurs.

Agreed. It does seem for the most part that the second half is often played under different rules than the first due to refs wanting to keep the cards in their pocket. In an era of five substitutes, there’s really no point.

Just as I thought when the new stadium opened, Oliver Skipp is the first to score for the Spurs against Chelsea there.

I knew they were in poor form, but didn’t realize until I looked back over there results just now. Two wins from their last 16 in all comps, and just a single win this calendar year.

I just don’t see how Potter recovers from this stretch. Even if they give him preseason and the start of next year, the fans and quite possibly the players have no trust in the guy. The circumstances haven’t been great for him, and he’s not even playing his preferred systems because of lack of install time, injuries and an inflated roster, so I do feel for him, but this has been bad.

Trusting the process works when you give people reasons to trust it, but when you don’t? Well, let’s just say, for every Mikail Arteta who suddenly turns an team around in the 11th hour, there are 100 managers who don’t.

The Newcastle support at Wembley today is unreal. It’s still 15+ minutes till kickoff and Man U’s end is barely half full. Meanwhile the Newcastle fans have fully done white and black stripes in the stands like when we checker Neyland.

Yeah I saw that quote. He also tried to compare the struggling of Liverpool and Klopp too. In the end though, the situations just aren’t quite the same. Arteta at least showed promise even his first year with the FA Cup..Klopp won something right away too. Both of them did it with less talent than Potter has too. So far, Potter just hasn’t given us any reason to believe he can turn it around. I really don’t think he’s a bad manager at all but if he’s good enough to be a manager at a club this big, it’s yet to be seen. I’m patient enough for a preseason and the first couple months of next season, but if he’s still struggling Boehly needs to cut his losses.

I reached the point where I think it’s best to just pull the plug on Potter. Yes it was a tough hand he was dealt but the team continues to regress under him and there never seems to be a gameplan when watching them play. Potter has forgotten more about the sport than I will ever know but some people aren’t cut out for the cutthroat nature of the Chelsea job. He’ll land at a bottom of the table club and do well more than likely

I’m at the point I have no faith but the only reason I say he probably gets til end of the season at least and early next season at most is because we don’t have a realistic option for interim manager. All those years we sacked managers in season we had one constant: a couple long running assistant coaches that had been with the club decades to take over interim until we found a new manager. We don’t have those anymore. All of the assistants are Potters guys and I bet they leave with him if he’s sacked. I also don’t know who we hire permanently either. I don’t see a lot of managers leaving their team til the end of the season. We might need to still sack him despite all of that though if we keep sinking.

Who would you look at as next manager if we did? Pochettino is just sitting out there but idk if I want him. Zidane won’t coach in England. Flick has been at the Bridge recently. Idk, tough choices.
