Prepare for Steele

If he hires a crap coach.....he’s a crap AD just like Currie.

That being said....I’d like to think that this hire will make or break Fulmers AD career. So I don’t think he will be dumb about it.

If Fulmer makes a crap hire after a $7 Million per year was already turned down and we have plenty of $$$$ to hire most anyone, I really couldn't blame our great fans if they riot and blow the internet to pieces.

Fulmer has zero real reasons not to make a solid homerun hire.

Make a great hire AD Fulmer, we're all behind you if you do that.

Yeah, im sure Steele and assistants will be happy with that contract.

Just Win Baby!

Hiring Steele as HC is like handing out manure at the slaughterhouse. Different smell, still stinks!

We are looking at 3 wins next year: ETSU, UTEP & Charlotte. We open with WVA (Grier for Heisman?), @Auburn after TSIO, and we get UF then @ UGA.

3-9, 0-8.

Of the candidates mentioned, I'm pretty sure this is who Fulmer will get. Hope I'm wrong

• Named one of the top-50 recruiters in the nation in 2013 by 247Sports.

• Named one of the top-10 recruiters in the ACC in 2013 by Rivals.

• His 2012 defense held opponents to just 34.0 percent on third down, 24th-best in the nation.

• A big reason Clemson has won back-to-back ACC titles for the first time in 28 years.

• Coached 13 years (1999-11) at Oklahoma and three years (1996-98) at Kansas State. He was also a graduate assistant coach at Kansas State for three seasons (1993-95).

• Served as co-defensive coordinator at Oklahoma (1999-03) and defensive coordinator at Oklahoma (2004-11).

• Linebackers under his direction were named Big 12 Defensive Player-of-the-Year five times and Big 12 Defensive Newcomer-of-the-Year five times. He also coached two Butkus Award winners and two other Butkus Award finalists.

• Broyles Award finalist in 2006 when Oklahoma led the Big 12 in total defense and scoring defense.

And Steele is better? NO! Look at the facts. I rest my case.

Probably not going to be a good season regardless of who is hired. Do you honestly think any coach is stupid enough to agree to a game by game contract?

Is it possible that from Brohms point of view the wrong guy was fired and He doesnt want to come work for a bunch of clowns?

Everyone in the country knew Currie was a dead man walking. We have more stability in the AD now and more money dedicated to athletics.

I would add his coaching tree as well. He's seen how a program runs under Synder, Stoops, and Dabo; those are three probable HOF coaches.

Well you have fellow fans actively seeking to do so.

At some point you just have to accept that we suck as far as leadership. Phil was a helluva coach but his hiring was sketchy; I'm prepared to be underwhelmed. Steele is exactly who I expect. Idk that there's a worse choice honestly, Schiano is better than Steele IMO.

You've been rumored to be contacting Petersen, Brohm, Morris, Venerables, Leach, Miles and you come away with a Kevin Steele hire? How is that not a complete failure?

Contacting people irrelevent if they dont want to come here. If you havent noticed, Tennessee national perception is not very good, to put it nicely. What coach wants to walk into what currently appears to be a career killer?

Well if that's the direction we are going maybe we should just go
and hire the next one at the same time. We could have a next man up philosophy on the staff.

Surely we can get past the idea that the only person who is qualified or best qualified is someone who
played here. History is littered with coaces going back to their alma mater and failed as head coach.

Steele should be way down any list. Or not even on the list.

Guys, I want Venables more than Steele, too. But just understand the situation that Steele was working with. He was 9-36 his first go-around as head coach in the early 2000's, at Baylor. During that era, Baylor was a place that Nick Saban would've gone maybe 11-34 in the same time span.

All he's done since leaving the Baylor program is continue to demonstrate that he's one of the top defensive minds in the southeast, and he's a solid recruiter.

People get mad around here for saying "we could do worse," but it's true. We could really do worse than Kevin Steele. That said, I'm hoping we can also do better.

Man I must have missed this. When did we hire Steele? Folks need to quit losing their sh!t until a coach is presented at the podium. I get that everyone is questioning Phil and his decision making based off of the past but I would put much more stock into Phil pushing and wanting what's ultimately best for UT than anyone else out there. We now have right person in the seat who is making the hire and I believe that he is going to make the right one.

Also I am seeing where this Steele stuff is originating from. Folks on VQ are convinced that Steele is going to be the next coach because Hubbs and company are leaving everything so open ended when they respond. So with nothing they not only read between the lines but deeper between those lines as well and feel they have a solid conclusion based on speculation.

If you are convinced that Phil is going to hire a buddy it is going to be easier to read between the lines that Phil is going to hire Les w/Steele as a DC vs. hiring Steele as a HC.
