USDA grant money was approved in 2024. The farmer paid substantial sums that were then supposed to be reimbursed by the grant. Spending his own money in advance was required as part of the process. He says those grants are now not being disbursed.

I don’t know the name of the grant or whether he had been officially told that the money was frozen by executive order (he believes/seemed to know that to be the case.) He says he knows several other farmers in a similar situation.

Thank you. I'll ask my Dad and brother if they have heard of similar situations.

I do know that this is plausible, several years ago we got 1/2 the cost reimbursed for building a new manure pit that met new standards so these situations happen.

I said before the inauguration that I don’t think anybody can fix the government from the top down without just breaking things.

Whether or not I was correct, that seems to be the approach of this administration. I’m interested to see if the resulting decline in government services will change the political landscape in Congress/the Republican Party.

Any idea how they were notified?

I have a local contact for grants (this is more land/water contracts) here and I will hit her up as to the impact. Just my two cents, but if the farmer was waiting on repayment on a grant contract and it was froze a week or so ago, that really isn't a government problem yet.... it could be in time but not anything like that.

So, spoke with my friend here locally with State (land/water improvements). This might be incorrect but what she told me IRA payments have been frozen by the feds, so this would be linked in with all the 2022 green crap. She said the locally assigned NRCS girl has been let go, she was with them a year and actually had moved from State over the last year. None of the State grants or programs are impacted at least as far as she knows. She is not aware of anything else impacted.

Agreed; I think Rs are well aware of that and this will begin soon. Having a portfolio of malfeasance will aid stimulating public appetite for legislation. This is literally a multi-generational attempt to reconstruct DC.

Yeah. It’s inefficient and outdated. Love my wife’s schedule though. So whatever changes they make I hope they leave that part alone. She’s on a 4 day work week. She has Fridays off, as do I. With 2 small children, having that day together is pretty damn awesome.
