anyone who has shot pretty much anything knows the whole "rip the ear off" is bs.

go to any gun range. take any (non shotgun) gun of any caliber at any range, and shoot the edge of the the PAPER target. do you rip the whole thing off because you grazed the edge? or does it barely register it with a flap from the slight tug.

if paper can survive a graze, an ear can survive a graze.
