President Donald Trump - J.D. Vance Administration

Here in georgia I literally didn't have to do anything different to get a real ID version of my drivers license. all I remember having to do was prove I lived where I claimed, which is standard, and check a box saying I wanted the Real ID version. I walked out 15 minutes later with one.

It's a royal PITA if you have a CDL. I applied for mine in March but couldn't get it because my medical card was expired, WTF does a physical have to do with proving who I am and where I live.

I did it several years ago but way to assume incorrectly....

Pretty much everyone who gets a REAL ID has to make at least 1 in person stop to DMV they wouldnt have made otherwise. That is the absolute definition of waste if there is no benefit.
why? you can do it as part of the standard drivers license renewal.
if you have already done it why are you complaining about 350 million having to do it? first timers could just get it the first time when you already have to prove a bunch of stuff anyway. and everyone else has had more than a decade to make it part of their standard license renewal.

Maybe its different in TN than when I lived there, but I remember my license having an expiration date, and having to go to the DMV with proper paper work already. so I don't think you are adding all that much, if anything.

the only paperwork I had to provide in Georgia was utility bills for the last two months, and my still valid but expiring drivers license. both of which would be required for standard drivers license renewal. or having a change of address with a current one. Real ID has been available in Georgia in 2012, I find it hard to believe people haven't had to go to the DMV for more than 13 years where this is an additional, onerous, task.

its not going to be anywhere close to 350 million all having to do it within the next two months. and there was nothing stopping you from making it a part of your standard DMV visit to remove most of the "waste" you are mentioning. what you are complaining about sounds like you didn't prepare for this before time, and are freaking out because its a last minute thing YOU have to do because of YOUR choices.
You didn't need your Social Security card? That's generally the biggest hassle but if you have that, you're in good shape. I got my real ID years ago

that sounds like its a CDL requirement, not a real ID requirement. I certainly didn't have to turn my head and cough to get my real ID.

I am not arguing for it, I am just saying yalls complaints have been overblown.

nope. I remember having to get SS card for my passport, but not the real ID version of the drivers license.

It's a BS requirement.

You can renew DL by mail/kiosk here. No need for DMV visit to renew...

You only need to have a valid DOT physical if you have a CDL. When I tried to get my real ID my CDL was still valid until 2028 so WTF is the need to have a valid DOT physical to get my real ID?

But what is the purpose of inconveniencing so many people for additional govt?

same, but last couple times I have gotten a new license due to a move and that requires an in person visit. but those kiosks are great, best thing the government has ever done. 2 minutes to get the new sticker for a license plate.

the part that pisses me off is that updating your address with one government entity doesn't change it for every government entity. even at the same "level". I took off a whole day of work just to visit the 5 or 6 places I needed to go to get my address changed when I bought a house. that was a pain in the arse.

maybe I was lucky, but it was no more of an inconvenience than I already had to go through to get a license. which means it wasn't any "additionaL govt" I had to go thru.

considering the right's typical stance on requiring IDs to protect voting/elections, and now immigration/citizenship status, I am surprised so many on this board have an issue getting that ID they want required.

An example is that you've never had to change your name. Women do for marriage or divorce and now they will need additional docs to prove that. It will affect a sizeable number

I think that is one of the issues with the SAFE act the Rs have been pushing too.
