So bought a Trek trail bike, a 29’er, about four years ago. Thought about toe clips so I could get more power from the down and up stroke. Thought about it for about two minutes and realized “hey dumbass it’s a trail bike and you’re an old man now. There is no use for them at your riding pace now. So no, you’ll dump it when you stop.”

Had toe clips on my old road bike. Don’t miss them at all.

Once you turn into an old fart you bargain with yourself to convince yourself you’re still young and fit. It’s a trail bike. I pedal around the damn neighborhood in regular shorts and tennis shoes. It’s not a road bike with me lubed up and forced into a bunch of form hugging Lycra. There try to unimagine that.
