I have two gut feelings about the situation. Gut feeling number one, this ordeal is not healthy for her mental or emotional well-being. I believe her when she expresses that. Gut feeling number two, and this is cynical, if she were going to lie I think she would lie to save face in a public fashion. I don't know why she would lie to her own diary in a stream of consciousness note taking session.

During my years in education, I have been involved in dozens of "diary" issues.
Threats, drugs, abuse, suicide, accusations against teachers......it's no longer shocking how many times the diaries are not based in reality.
They are always taken seriously and almost never fully are.
