President Joe Biden - Kamala Harris Administration

When was the last time you voted for a non Democrat or left leaning independent?
It would obviously be the last time I felt that candidate would best move the country in the appropriate direction on the issues I value most.

I voted for Lamar Alexander for Gov. of TN about 40 years ago.

Panama Warns Another Caravan of 60,000 Haitian Migrants is Headed for the US Border through Mexico and says it has been sounding alarms to Biden for MONTHS

Panama's foreign minister has warned that another wave of some 60,000 migrants, mostly Haitian nationals, is now headed toward the southern US border.

Foreign Minister Erika Mouynes expressed exasperation during a visit to Washington DC this week, saying that Panama has been warning the Biden administration for months about the recent surge in irregular migration.

'We sounded the alarm when we should have,' Mouynes told Axios. 'We've engaged with every single authority that we can think of, that we can come across, to say, "Please, let's pay attention to this."'

Where's the president, who got the most votes in american history, when you need him?
Biden's presidency causes nothing but lies & chaos and not helping in times of destruction ...

Hurricane Ida recovery: Louisiana local leaders say FEMA ‘missing in action’ as parish pleads for help

I saw a story on that the other day while watching the morning news. One interview with a local official said the response has been a lot worse than when Katrina hit. The interesting thing about the whole story was not 1 mention of the President.

Get rid of the idiotic hours of service rules and medical standards for CDL drivers. The standards for a CDL physical are more stringent than that of an airline pilot and the hours of service rules severely limit the drivers ability to earn. I've said it a thousand times that if safety was truly the goal the DOT would outlaw paying by the mile and remove the overtime exemption.
What are the limits that harms their earnings? just curious. Do they have physicals twice a year?

Some have physicals every 90 days, 6 months once per year or every other year but for every other year you pretty much have to be in olympic athlete shape now. Currently if you have a BMI of 35 or more (going to 30 next year) or your neck is 17" or more you have to have a sleep study, which means you have to have a C-pap.

As for HOS you have 14 hours to drive 11 once you come on duty and you have to take a minimum 30 minute break midway through your shift and take 10 consecutive hours off duty. Unless you are team driving you can't split off duty time like you used to. That sounds like a lot of available driving time but all too often shippers/receivers will take hours to load/unload a truck which the driver isn't getting paid for and cuts into the available money making time. If safety was the goal DOT would forbid paying by the mile.

Thanks. It will take me awhile to digest that and compare it to our rules. Our most recent rules came about as a result of a crash where fatigue was a significant contributor. The funny thing is that they are more onerous rather than restrictive. We can do a 2 man 9 hour block day (but can be on duty for 13 or more under certain circumstances) I am actually a little rusty on domestic rules, but suffice it to say that after the change, more pilots are more tired than before. As a long haul international guy the flights I do are mostly over 12 hours so we require 4 pilots. I guess that is a comparison to 'team driving', and it is the right requirement. I am flying back from Korea today, and my sleep cycle is completely messed up. It's coming up on 5am here and I am wide awake. I have been here since the 29th (I left on the 27th... figure that one out.)

Do you get paid on those long layovers?

Yeah... it's complicated, but simply put, since they are such long flights we get paid for that time and just perdiem for the down time I am sitting in the hotel. It works out pretty well in the end. A normal month is right around 78 hours of pay. A long trip like this can be worth half a month and it is only 6 days. But I am gone from home that whole time.

Not bad. What do you do, a couple of those a month?

Yeah. I am on call for October. I had to have off for a couple of weekends and I couldn't bid for trips and guarantee that I would have the time off I needed. So I am at the mercy of scheduling on the days I am available.

It is the advantage of being on a senior airplane. The junior domestic guys work their asses off.

How long have you been piloting international flights? Have you been to like almost every country worth visiting?

I've been doing international since 2002. Not exclusively, but mostly. I have been blessed and I have been to a lot of places, but I usually only get to stay for 24 hours. I can show you around Paris in a day and see everything worth seeing. ;) It is interesting how we all have different places that we like. I LOVE Bogota and South America in general. Also Asia. But Europe is really hard on the body clock. It's hard to explain, but going east to Europe and transiting 7 time zones is harder than going west and transiting 13. It can be hard on your body too. Here's a picture of my copilot. He's 50.
