So our old house had a heat pump with NG as the emergency heat. Once I educated myself on how the system worked I used emergency heat for our regular heat in the winter and my energy bills went down considerably. We’re NG heat and hot water by my specification to the builder in the new house. But again this is Texas. NG will be cheap here for the rest of my life at least. And I won’t care after that.
Wow, smart move on the emergency heat idea. I'm wondering if I would have thought of that! I'm not sure if NG would be cheaper in the Chattanooga home - there was always the problem with mismatched heating and air capacities - too much heat and too little AC (I blame the damn yankee designers for that). This house is a lot less tight, and gas at consistent and reasonable prices might be a better alternative because the strip heaters kick in too much.
