First Team All-American Quarterback Nick Lamaison Heading To Tennessee To Play For The Volunteers
July 15, 2009
Walnut, CA-First Team All-American, team leader and Mt. SAC Quarterback Nick Lamaison has signed a letter of intent and has received a full-scholarship to play this season for the Tennessee Volunteers. Last season as a freshman, Lamaison led the Mounties to a Conference and Southern California Championship. "We will truly miss Nick, however we are excited for him and his opportunity to play and challenge for the starting job at Tennessee", replies Offensive Coordinator, Tom Craft. "Had he stayed for another season with us, he would have challenged many of the all-time community college records." Lamaison finishes his Mountie career with 3,479 yards of passing, 36 touchdowns and a passing efficiency of 166.5.

The Mounties have a number of great quarterbacks who will challenge for the starting quarterback slot including Sophomore Tyler Vanderzee who did a fantastic job leading the Mounties to victory in the play-offs during Lamaison's injury. Along with Vanderzee, Matt Faulkner (Highland Village, TX) a red shirt transfer from Fresno State University will be aiming for the starting job.

For additional information, please contact the Mt. SAC Sports Information Office at 909-594-5611 ext. 4629.

Nick is finishing a 10 page paper for his final for his English requirement in order to be admitted and to enroll at Tennessee. The last day of class for him is the end of this week.

Assuming he passes that class, look for him to be here when the team reports in just over two weeks.

So this kid is a 1st team AA and yet most of us still aren't impressed with getting him?

At least...that's the impression I've gotten on here when Laimaison has been discussed

wondering if this early presser is in anticipation of the Scroggins "rumored" announcement for today?

1st team JUCO AA...not that it doesn't mean anything, just that its not to be confused with HS Parade All American.

Even if things go south with Jesse, having Lamaison and Cam Newton could work out great. Offer Grayson to boot and call it a day

My only concern is his height. He'll have to have excellent vision. Everything else looks good to me. It is also important that he counts on 2009 IMO.

Honestly, I'm more pleased with this kid than I would have been if UT had gotten Heaps as far as the player is concerned. I know Heaps might have helped a little with recruiting but I never saw anything in his highlights or any specifics in his write ups that made me think he was "The Guy".

Excellent....Does this announcement mean that the coaches have given up on Scroggins?

I think he's more of an insurance policy. If we get Scroggins or not at least we'll have another QB to compete for the job next yr. Didn't really know too much about this kid til the last few days, but his numbers are unreal for only playing 10 games as a Frosh. You've gotta think that Chaney and Kiffin could do some serious work with production like that.

99% of what I've read on here regarding him has painted him as some sort of fallback guy...like we'll take him if we don't land Marve/Newton/Heaps/Hendrix/Scroggins...

And those opinions make sense...he's been wanting to seal the deal for a while and we've made him hold off...

Regardless...I'm impressed with his numbers and at the very least I think he gives us a mich more viable 3rd option than Rozier
