New York Times Election Map Shows America As Nearly All Blue | NewsBusters.org

Matthews was holding the NYT county by county map, which showed one small area of red in the south surrounded by a sea of blue. The Washington Post map reflected a bit more of the reality.

But Barack Obama did not actually win states like Utah, Montana, Idaho, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, South Carolina, etc., that this map shows as mostly or totally blue. What the New York Times published this year is a map showing the shift in a county’s vote from 2004, not the results. So if a Republican county voted for Bush by 12 points in 2004, but only gave McCain a seven-point advantage this year, the Times paints it as blue, not red.

Well hell, why did he even campaign in the first place if it was a forgone conclusion? You can't honestly sit there and say PA would have gone his way if he only limited his campaigning to Pittsburgh and Philly. We can agree to disagree, but discounting strategy and saying Obama won entirely because of Bush and shallow promises is disengenuous.

I see your point but Bush was at least 60 to 70% of the reason many more counties and states were in play.

To say that by spending resources in those areas he won them over is totally overlooking the reason they were in play to begin with.....Bush.

because that's what we do. We just pissed away $1 Billion.

I understand that the candidates want to get their respective messages out, but their impact on the race is minimal at best.

I'm not being disingenuous in the least. I firmly believe that Obama carries PA if neither of them ever sets foot in the state.

The strategy might have made a minimal difference, but it's funny how macro events have almost always been capable of projecting winners.

04, you might have an argument for the campaigning being the difference. 08, not much of an argument. Obama had all he needed in events, shady message and complicit media.

I disagree 100%. At best it is a toss-up, otherwise it goes red.

The rest of your post is fair.

disagree. I'm saying that's how I see it, not that it's written in stone.

By the by, I respect your opinion there.
