Pride, the hybrid, and the next era

Just above the mason Dixon line we use beer and xenophobia to keep us together. (Seriously, I've lived in York for.nearly 6 years and they still don't allow me say I'm from here).

Move back down here. We'll claim ya.

Jones hasn't done anything wrong atp and he's killing it from a PR standpoint. Recruiting is as good as it's been in a long time too.

Win games and we have our guy.

It's been a little better than 24hrs since we left Neyland Stadium for the last time until August 31st. More hurry up and wait. Sucks.

But here's my uneducated, totally emotional, orange colored thoughts on our team and our new coach.

Startng with PRIDE. I have it cause I'm a Vols fan. But here's something new and a little unexpected....our head coach has it too, and his name isn't Fulmer. It shouldn't be unexpected, cause we're Tennessee. And some feel like it's nothing but PR and a show, but again, we're Tennessee so why would you be suspicious of his motive? Everything I've seen Coach Jones do has been a demonstration of the pride he feels for the University of Tennessee. It's his job to feel that way, and aren't we glad we have so many reasons to make that easy for him.

I see Jones as a Hybrid+1. We had Fulmer who loved Tennessee. We had Kiffin who was great at marketing UT. We had Dooley who was great at crossing t's and dotting i's and keeping the program above board. They all had something UT needed. But Jones has all of it from what I can see as the casually observing fan.

I left Neyland Stadium yesterday feeling the same way I feel after a great family get together. Thinking about all the new things I'd just learned about the people I love. Thinking about all the struggles I heard that some of them are having. And thinking how thankful I am that I am a member of that family.

I feel good about our football team. I feel good being a fan of the Volunteers. And I feel really good saying GO VOLS!

Let me add my :salute::clapping::salute::clapping::eek:k:

Agree with the hybrid assessment. I think it's going to be very hard to judge CBJ this year with our schedule. If he just sneaks one win away that we weren't supposed to get, it will be a good sign. I cannot wait to get this season going. Really excited about our recruiting too.

The nice part of the PR blitz is that he is hyping Tennessee as Tennessee and our legacy / history instead of the east coast version of USC Trojans (showing their highlights left a bad taste for me)

Agree that the only thing left is to win some games. I'm sure he will once the games actually start - and fully expect a few bumps along the way this year. Get us to a bowl game and anything else is gravy

I really like Jones as a coach. Since his hire, I think he has done all he can to rebuild the unity of the Vol Nation (as a whole...not the board...we're rarely unified on anything :p ). My only reservation is on whether or not he puts wins on the board. That being said, I think he will. His track record speaks for itself, and before you say, "But he only won in subpar conferences", I'll respond with, "And he only had subpar talent."

I suppose this labels me as a sunshine pumper, but life's to short to be Debbie Downer.
