Professionalize SEC Officiating

I agree with this but also want to point out that conference run officiating is a major problem because of the financial incentive conferences have to protect the teams most likely to make it to the playoffs. We need a national officiating pool managed by an independent organization, whether it's the NCAA or a new organization, to put an end to the appearance of bias in officiating. Just look at the Bama-Texas series. The conference officiating traveling with the visiting team was the decisive factor in each of those games.
I vote for a new governing body and the officials go through them not conferences. The sec and all power 5 conferences have had plenty of time to address their officiating but instead of holding them accountable they bury their hands in the sand. I don’t trust the NCAA to be a to navigate a 1 car funeral much less oversee officiating. We need another governing body or panel in my opinion. GBO

Sports betting will eventually end professional and college sports.

Just like our government, it’s all corrupt.

It’s not worth investing our time watching this crap anymore.
If enough fans complain something will change. And no gambling is never going to end sports, but if fans truly keep hounding the sec and other conferences offices it will put them into action. Especially if fans start threatening to turn away. At the end of the day they can’t generate revenue if folks don’t spend the money. Bad and missed calls are always going to happen, but if the referee situation isn’t addressed they will be forced to let instant replay be available for any call. Give each team 4 replay opportunities each half plus have a booth with a replay official and he gets 2 minutes to change or uphold the call. That is 8 replay opportunities for each team during a game. Also the booth replay official can also stop game for replay if teams are out if he deems it necessary. And then after each game where a high number of replays were needed the oversight committee can review officials. The officials should be graded and held accountable for any bad decisions after every game. This is what should be demanded by the fans and we need to complain to the highest offices till it becomes reality. GBO

What's sad to me is it doesn't have to be this way. Call a clean game. Hell I'll take a few that were called the other way, it happens, but this was just so blatant. We should be on here dissecting the actual game instead of the officiating. If this continues I may just start treating college ball like I do the pros and kind of stop caring. I still watch the NFL but only as a casual fan and I definitely don't purchase anything.

When Milton got the 1st down at the fifty, and watching the replay several times, then the head official watches it on review and they overturn the first down, I knew the fix was in. I was just discussing with my wife what I thought might make a difference; have an informal gathering of all the conference coaches during the off season an come to a decision to call out bad officiating and pay the fine. And then I realized, Saban and Smart would not agree to it, and probably rat them out. I mean, the calls are made in their favor.

It is going to need to be the other 12 coaches / ADs standing together on this.

The same refs were there in the first half when we dominated Bama. Play good enough and officials don't matter.

We settled for 2 fields goals and on both of those drives there appeared to be uncalled penalties that could have extended the series and possibly turned that into 24/28 points instead of 20.

It was happening in the first half as well, but the defense was still able to keep Bama in check. The Bama offensive line was probably told to 'hold more" in the second half as it became apparent the refs were not going to throw a flag for that on them.

Agreed.

There is TOO MUCH $$ involved for these games to not have officiating influenced.

When replay reveals what the call should've been and there is widespread support for the correct call, yet the officials on the field somehow can't see what everyone else sees you know the fix is in.

This happens at most all of the larger stage games due to the amount of interest/$$.

Sad but telling.

The only way to beat having the officials against you is to play better than the other team and that isn't going to be easy.
We were playing better than the other team. That's why the calls changed at half time.

We should really just go pick up basketball style and have players call the penalties. No refs at all. It’d be better than the 2nd half in tuscolooser.
