Mods, please feel free to delete the link if necessary, free read. :hi:

1. Alabama
2. OSU
3. Georgia
4. Michigan
5. LSU
6. FSU
7. Oklahoma
8. USC
9. T A&M
10. Clemson
11. Auburn
14. Florida
15. Tennessee
17. USCe
23. Miss St
24. Kentucky

List does include expected commits in this class. Obviously, they aren't including Cam in TN's class, I think around 10ish for TN's final ranking.

Wow... Finishing 7th in the SEC in recruiting is unacceptable. Can't expect to win the East with this level of recruiting.

It would just take too long cherry picking this pathetic projection. Sorry, but UT won't be that far down, UGA most definitely won't be 3rd, the Sooners won't drop that far and...Did Dabo quit? Clemson will be top 5. Have heart though, OP. I thoroughly agree with your first sentence. AMIRIGHT?

Hummmphhh, this is discussed every year at the end of recruiting season. Due to the lack of accuracy in the ranking of players, the difference between being #6 or #15 in team ranking is INCONSEQUENTIAL! If the team rankings finish in the order they predicted then....Bama, UGA, LSU would all probably have superior talent in the class. Then there would actually be a large group of SEC teams, UT included, whose classes would all be bringing in very similar levels of talent.

Heck couldn't win the East with back to back top 10 classes.

Go back and look at our '14 class. I wouldnt even call it top 25 class at this point.

16 4*s originally - 20 if you count the 4 stars across all the services.

Composite 4*s no longer with the program;

1. J. Hurd *quit the team
2. D. Hendrix *transfer
3. D. Scott *transfer
4. D. Helm *transfer
5. D. Blair *JUCO/quit the team
6. D. Payne *transfer
7. C. Weatherd *JUCO/graduate
8. V. Pearson *JUCO/graduate

Composite 4*s still with the program;

1. J. Malone - great career so far
2. TK Jr - been very solid for us
3. Dillon Bates - injuries and not as good as advertised
4. D. Barnett - one of the best DEs to ever play at TN. maybe the best.
5. Gavin Bryant - not as good as advertised
6. C. Moseley - out of shape, injured, ...
7. Evan Berry - GOAT kick returner...completely underutilized
8. Cortez McDowell - solid player

Plus I'm pretty sure Joe Henderson, Paulk, Michael Sawyers & Creamer were all rated 4 stars by one of the services. They are all gone as well...

Every class has attrition but you are right but keep in mind, to influx talent, Butch signed 85 in 3 years so a lot of those was quantity classes. 85 in 3 and that's not even counting the grayshirts, so their had to be attrition somewhere.

247 Sports is giving us T.J. Moore as our big finisher. I thought we had basically cut ties with him now? That's my understanding on it with him anyway. Would be fine with me though because we can never have enough OL.

I think it's going to be another recruit & not Moore but it will be a 4* recruit to match what Moore is ranked anyhow. I said we would barely make the top 15 unless CBJ pulls off a stunner & if that doesn't happen then top 15 it is.

CBJ pulls of a 5* stunner & we're going to jump into the top 10. It's as simple as that. I'm going to say he doesn't though & we finish 14th & UF will be 15th. If he does then we're top 10 ~#8th or #9th.

I'm all for attrition. But when that attrition comes at the expense of your highest rated prospects then you've got a bit of a problem. Butch is a great recruiter but he's not going to win the SEC with quantity/development. He needs quality/talent now more than ever.

85 signings/commits in 3 classes is not out of the norm. You make it sound like it is though. That's a little over 28 recruits per class over those 3 years. I do think though we need to start focusing more on quality over quantity.

It seems quantity over quality is the way it's been going for 2017 with so many 3* recruits. Quantity seems to have been first on CBJ's mind for 2017 commits.

In other conferences, this might work for a conference championship but not in the SEC. It's got to be quality over quantity every signing class if we want to get back to contending in the SEC & national scene. Just ask Nick Saban & he will tell us so. Thanks!

Agree, and did before, was just saying signing that many probably led to more attrition, unfortunately, as you stated, more top end talent than one prefers.

Also stated where I think final rank is, disagree with top 15, very close to 10.

Bama has top class every year. What am I missing? I see here all the time how Butch is this tremendous recruiter....but how can he be called that if he's not even top 5 in the conference with this class? Yeah...it's great if you're Vandy. It's not awful being 15th in the country but it's digression not progress.

I celebrate every good kid/player that chooses to come to UT...but we have to have better than this to compete for real in the SEC.

So much attrition begs the question whether we got some of these players because other schools recognized the issues and backed out. Is Jones really that good of a recruiter? Same thing was asked about some of Fulmer's latter classes that turned out to be paper tigers.

Agree, it would be different if we were finishing in the late 20's, early 30's like Fulmer's last couple classes.

Problem is I think even if there are/were attrition problems, we would hardly even recognize it because heavy attrition has been the norm here at Tennessee for the past 10 years. We all know how Fulmer's later years turned out - lots of players washed out, plus Kiffin had one of the worst classes in modern UT history and we know Dooley's story as well - the man simply didn't have any idea how to manage an already dilapidated roster and I'm not sure he ever took the job seriously, to be honest. He coached with one foot out the door the entire time. Him not taking an OLman in 2012 was beyond unacceptable-it was Seppuku.

So far Butch's 2013/2014 class were pretty weak (even though '14 was top 10). The '15 class has been his best and the '16 class has retained a lot of talent. So he's on the right track with the last two classes, at least in terms of talent retention, but now the question is will that retention rate revert back to how it was before or will we see some stability now that Butch knows the score and knows what he wants in recruits? It is his 5th class, afterall. If we start seeing high turnover again this year then we know it's a problem of talent/player evaluation and not "normal" attrition issues. JMO

7th in the league won't cut it for a coach that struggles to win when it counts even with a talented roster. Way too many 3*s and way too few 4-5*s

It's so simple you got to have a good OL, and D-LINEMEN'S depth you got that you got a chance if you miss on your OL and DL recruits you are fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff, it's just that plain and simple.
