We won the conference tourney, which is awesome. So now how do we fare against the rest of the nation, a legitimate shot at winning?

The Lady Vols were ranked 8th heading into the SEC tourney, I see no reason why they wouldn't be a top 8 seed

NCAASports.com currently lists the Bruins in the Gainesville bracket as "ULCA."
I had to click on the region to confirm it was an error and not some small school. It must have been quite the down year for the Bruins.

that is freakin horrible.....NO RESPECT.......I hope every SEC team xcept TN gets put out in first round just to prove how horrible the rankings were....top 10 all yr then 14th seed.....thats hypocritical.....

I was at first surprised by the seeding even though our low RPI concerned me a bit comapared to our national rankings.

Well, we'll have to take care of the regional first; getting out of the regional won't be no easy task.

However, if the seeding do hold, then we'll face another UT school in #3 Texas at Texas (please correct me if I'm wrong). I've seen them play a couple times this year, and I do believe that we do have a great/legitimate shot at beating them. Blaire Luna is one helluva pitcher, but I think our hitters can get to her. She's a lot like our own Ellen Renfore. She has a great movement with decent velocity. But, she's beatable...

But, let's not look too far ahead, but win the Knoxville regional before we worrry about anything else.

This seeding is bad, but if we're destined to advance to WCWS and have a shot at NC, then we'll look at it as just another challenge and show the rest of the world how good we really are...

UT is going to have to beef up its OOC schedule to get any respect from the Selection Committee. That's likely what hurt their seeding more than anything. Getting swept by UF to close the regular season didn't help matters either.

Is the punishment for the mens program cheating? There has to be some explanation for this. Even Ga, who we finished ahead of in the regular season, blew them out twice on their home field, and just beat them for the 3rd time to make us 3-0 against them for the season. Now how do they get a 6 and we get a 14? Someone help my confusion here.

It's just as SGM stated: UT's out of conference sched wasn't up to what other SEC schools faced. UGA played better competition in the early tournaments that UT did. That's why, even though our ladies had a better record, UGA's RPI was so much higher. The NCAA goes more by RPI than anything else when seeding. Remember a few years back when the team was ranked first in all the polls but the NCAA seeded them 5th? Same reason.

All the schools that the Lady Vols have to play are probably thinking "oh ****, the Lady Vols are much higher than a 14 seed and we have to play them." If your team is good enough to compete for the title, it should be able to beat anyone.

I get the RPI stuff but i still think this a terrible seeding job by the AA. I think we'll win the regional, but a 14 seed after winning the SEC tourney? That's just not right.

Can someone tell me the possible projected dates that UT would be playing or at least the first date/time UT will be playing? I've tried googling but a lot of these sites are blocked for me at work. :cray: At least VN isn't. :)

It smells like BS to me and my nose isn't all that good. Not the first time a team has been completely surprised with NCAA seeding in a tournament. If RPI is a factor in seeding, is it not a factor in national ranking throughout the year?

I agree that it doesn't pass the sniff test.

Positives:
-Ranked top 10 almost all year
-Finished 3rd in the SEC 1 game behind UF and 2 behind Bama.
-Split series with Bama
-Sweept UGA & finished ahead of them in the East
-Won the SEC Tourny

Negatives:
-Swept by UF although the 1st 2 games were competitive 4-3(walk off HR) & 2-0.
-3 bad losses MissST, UNLV, & Auburn

Using RPI to seed teams is one approach but it's difficult to comprehend how the Dawgs are seeded 8 spots above the Vols given results on the field. It may have been a fair evaluation by the committee but something about it doesn't pass the eye or smell test.

The poster who stated something like they basically just use the RPI was exactly right.

Here's what they went by, I believe. I don't think the SEC tournament even figured in the calculations-the pairings were done long before the LVs won the SECC. They simply used the RPI of May 11-it looks similar except for a few (Texas). It made it easy on the NCAA "selection" committee, and kept the status quo. If they could have the same 5-6 teams get to the finals every year they would think all's right with the world, probably.

BTW, one would think by the seeding Tennessee played all their league games in the MAC instead of the SEC.

If you compare Georgia and Tennessee, Georgia played about twelve more home games than our ladies. Seems like we played more road games and games on neutral sites.
