proof positive LG is right and the tea party is a fringe movement

please drop this garbage you aren't calling the tea party supporters racist.

perhaps you don't remember the early 80s, but a similar reaction happened then and that guy was white.

My point is that a lot of people have some fear over the change in the demographics of our society.

Presidents used to be named Bush or Clinton or Reagan or Ford or Kennedy. We could trace their roots to oil money or baseball teams or turn of the century mining. Now we have one named Obama, who immediate ancestors were from Kenya.

County commissioners used to be Smith or Johnson and we could trace their roots to early settlers of the area and they had 100 year old estates. Now they are Martinez and their parents are from Mexico.

Dismissing the observation that white middle class America is a little freaked out by that as just race-baiting is incredibly naive.

do you think that people hated bush because he was white? he got the democratic base all fired up too. or does it not go both ways?

I guess the easy way to rationalize having voted for an idiot is to say that those eviscerating him are raving lunatics, even if it's 75% of the populace.

Explain an initial support of over 65% and now finding it greater than 20% decline. Explain a mass amount of independents who voted for him who are now not only against him but anyone with a D beside their name. Or are you just saying the racism only exists on the R side who would never support him regardless.

Would names like Rubio and Jindal fit into your theory? We are talking about southern states here with Republicans with names that are not WASP.

Obama could be purple, white, yellow any color imaginable and the sentiment from the country would be the same. It isn't racism that is driving peoples dislike of the direction our country is headed and the way it is being run.

in another thread, LG claims he values seriousness over puffery, I'm beginning to think he's either schizoid or he's been playing us this whole time

it all depends on whether he's wearing his pants to the office, or his skirt for a night on the town.

How stupid of me, I really need to dedicate some "me time" and come to grips with the fact that were Obama white I would be comfortable with the direction the country was headed.

My friends of different ethnic backgrounds will be so disappointed in me.

Much of the same vitriol expressed now is the same as what was expressed in '94. Add economics, immigration, WOT/Afghanistan, and a few other items and you have a very amplified '94 environment. Clinton was white, he was southern, and he had a "normal" last name. I know people referred to him as the "first Black president" but I'd love to hear LG's explanation of covert racism there.

I had a black room mate one year in college. That Jerry Curl juice was NASTY! Other than that, great guy, could knock the shat out of a baseball.

so you're saying he was good at hitting things with a baseball bat?

Its the old double dismissive ploy. I am dismissing the idiocy of the people who voted for Obama and bpv is dismissing me.

That is, give or take 1 dismissive ...

The fact that Obama's support has waned is hardly evidence that there aren't some identity-crisis problems going on for white middle class America.

In fact, if anything, the two go hand in hand.

That people in 1994 or 2002 found reasons to criticize 2-year old presidencies then is hardly proof as to the reason some people criticize this president, now.

I would assume even you could see the logic there.

Perhaps but your argument that the dislike of our president is due to the color of his skin or the feeling of minority America getting a piece of the pie and not a march toward failed policy of Europe at odds with the ideals that made America great is just plain silly.

I will not deny that there are some racists or bigots worried that minorities holding office are a threat but there are so small in number compared to the actual numbers of Americans with legitimate concerns they are in every way insignificant to the discussion. Your repeated attempts to lump them with everyone else not on board with Obama is silliness.
