Props to Bilas

I'm glad someone started this thread. Someone on the national stage has needed to call out Slive. Living in Nashville and listening to Clay Travis blow the guy on a regular basis makes me even more pissed off anytime someone brings it up.

What makes it even better is that Bilas is one of, if not the best college bball analyst ESPN has.

This was the most unbelievably biased broadcast towards Tennessee that I have ever seen. Bilas was all over the Vols...but it was deservedly so.

I love how Bilas and the other guy pointed out how the Pitt fans were complaining on calls, but most "not have seen the 30 foul shots Pitt took"...along those lines.

Great game though.

They've pretty much gotta brag on us when we are absolutely owning the number 3 team in a road game.

The fact Bilas is a lawyer by trade only makes his remarks all the more legitimate IMO.

Jay Bilas was not loving on Tennessee or Bruce Pearl, not even a little bit.

He was hating on Mike Slive for doing the NCAA's job.

Bilas even commented that if a player were to have lied to the NCAA the way Pearl did, the player would be suspended permanently.

Don't introduce the facts in this thread. It would just be pouring cold water on all of this Jay Bilas love going on right now.

I didn't take it that he was being favorable to Pearl or Tennessee. Sounds to me like he thinks that the NCAA should have given Pearl a one year ban.

I think Slive has a bug up his butt about the Vols. He was constantly criticizing Kiffin, and now he sticks his big nose into pearl's situation. I haven't heard him dinging other SEC coaches for infractions or issues--have I missed them--but he never misses a chance to kick some sand on us. I don't like the man.

Dez Bryant agrees with Bilas.

were you guys watching the same game I was? Tennessee was thrashing the number 3 team in their own back yard by 20 and they are rambling on about how a lesser coach would have been fired.

Dez bryant was only suspended for 1 season, not permanently, that was a completely made up statement by Bilas.

I'm glad he ripped Slive, but I got a little tired of the extended discussion of the Pearl situation while there was some dang good ball being played by one of the teams on the court today. I guess we should just prepare ourselves for more of the same the rest of the season. If anyone other than Boob was calling the game, I'd probably just switch the audio to the radio instead.

It's Pearl's fault not Jay's.

I enjoyed listening to Bilas the whole game.

I couldn't stop laughing at his comments after Fields' 2 handed, volleyball block.

"Is there a dent on the floor over there?----THAT WAS AMAZING!"

Kudos Jay :eek:k:

Did anyone else hear Bilas' comment (paraphrasing) asking where he needed to pay his $100 because Tennessee was putting on a clinic?

Actually Slive is trying to help UT. I don't like the guy, but he ran the NCAA appeals and knows what it takes for the AA to be pleased and limit their punishment. Gottlieb and others have said Slive did this to help Pearl's case with the NCAA.

I hope he's trying to help because it seems to add just one more facet to this storyline that keeps it in front of the media and becomes a talking point for every UT game. And I'm sure the NCAA enjoys having our success flashed in front of them during ball games all but calling them out asking them what they plan on doing about it. Got my fingers and toes crossed for a light penalty.

I think people need to realize Bilas doesn't hate Tennessee and one of the reasons why is I notice he does not have many positive things to say about UK/Calipari when he does their games, and probably dislikes the Cats because of his affiliation with Duke. I think Bilas believes Bruce Pearl's enthusiasm and energy is great for college basketball. Bilas seemed to really like Bruce Pearl and Tennessee until the year we lost to Oklahoma State in the first round. He was really disappointed in that team, as we all were, and did not think Bruce did a good coaching job that year. Bilas had high predictions for Tennessee that year and I think he felt like the Vols let him down, since his predictions didn't hold up (remember that team was preseason #7 or #8).

Bilas is additionally, a huge Scotty Hopson supporter and was the main person who predicted Hopson would have the year he is having because of his extremely solid performances in summer camps against NBA players. Bilas knows what he is talking about and his basketball analysis and b-ball IQ is one of the most respected in the game as far as commentators are concerned.

+1. I think this is what pisses of Bilas more than anything. Quite obvious the guy wants the NCAA to come down hard on Pearl and Slive might have softened that a bit... JMO.

That's what I thought. What if the 8 games keep Pearl from getting anymore game suspensions? I don't like Slive at all but he has to realize Pearl is waving the banner for league and the best thing for the league is having Pearl in it..Why do you think Newton stayed on the field???? $$$$$ for the SEC... JMO..
