Distance creates perspective.I wish him the best. He may not have worked out here, but he's always struck me as a good guy at heart.
And let's be honest ... his biggest crimes were not being good at offense and not being as good at cheating as Saban and Smart. I'm glad we got Heupel now, but I don't bear any ill will towards him.
I think he was trying to build a winner here the only way he knew how, and the way it is done at the programs currently on top every year.
He failed because he is not executive material. That is his failing. If he had built some trust in those three seasons he might have had his indiscretions overlooked or covered up.
When he threatened to lay out UT's dirty laundry, he lost me.
When he held his tongue and asked for leniency for the program, it gave both sides cover to move on.
