Pruitt waiting until AFTER ESD to hire OC?

Yall better prep for Will Friend.

I really don't even have a gut feeling in who it will end up being, but I just really don't believe its him.

Seriously. No reason to wait this long if its him, and I'm not buying the theory that they know how we'll all react so they're waiting until we all calm down blah blah blah....

Im also not buying that they have hired the guy, told offensive recruits expecting to keep it quite for some reason.

This is my thought as well. I don't think they are waiting to announce due to it being a lack luster hire. I think if it were someone on staff it would have already been announced. I also feel that if it were a current OC in college it would have been announced. Leads me to believe that either 1 we don't have anyone yet. Or 2 that its an NFL guy.

I have liked Pruitt since day one and I really do think he can be successful here if he gets SEC level talent, but man this coaching search has not been good for moral. I think it puts him in a much tighter spot than he might have otherwise been in if it doesn't play out favorably on the field. I hope that when the hire gets announced it makes us all have that "well that actually makes sense moment" but history has not favored Vol fans in these instances.

That is the problem - we are all still gun shy because of UT's history of making bad decisions. Reality is however, that we will not really know if this was "good" or "bad" until we first find out who is actually retained as OC and what the story was behind it, including others who may have been offered but did not accept. We are so used to being spurned as a fanbase that we have knee jerk reactions to things that we know little about because we automatically assume the worst possible scenario. That is not likely to change unless and until there is some sustained success.

This may all be fine and Pruitt has had his man for over a week now but we dont really know. The only thing I can say is that unlike previous searches, the AD, HC and staff are VERY tight lipped. Pruitt clearly doesnt give a rats ass about the media, who at this point are just floating things whole cloth to seem like they know something. I am just hopeful that approach doesnt hurt us for ESD but then, I suspect that someone who has won National Recruiter of the Year can make a better assessment of that than can I.

I'm just going to reiterate there are still plenty of power schools looking for OCs at this point. Most coaches are worried about recruiting currently and trying to fit in interviewing in between. Pruitt has a huge weekend for recruiting that he's been working on; a five star Olineman that we lead for is coming in supposedly among other highly rated players. I know a lot of you are focused on the OC search but recruiting is more important right now.

Why not announce that? No rule against it, not going to hurt their recruiting or chance at making the playoffs.

I don't believe they are telling players/recruits etc and telling them to keep quiet. Haha, that's absurd.

Have they got their guy and just not announced it for whatever reason? I don't think so, but it makes as much sense as anything else I guess.

I really don't know. And lime I said, I don't Even have a gut feeling about who it actually is. Weird. IMO.

Who's still looking in the P5?

I would think its possibly a breach of contract for them to have talks and deals set up prior to contracts end date. NFL is a different animal than college.

Pruitt seems like the type of guy you want to go against in an auction..
Really? You really want to go against a guy that keeps everything close to the vest and non-emotional and makes it clear that you are being played?

This just reaffirms to me that Pruitt really doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing. Tyson Helton has been gone for 3 weeks, and Pruitt probably knew before that. Any coach worth a damn is gonna have a list of candidates at all times. This should have been a quick hire, new OC in the works, and on the recruiting trail. Now we are down one less recruiter in one of the most critical recruiting weeks of the year

FWIW, Ole Miss HC Matt Luke is also planning on making a hire after NSD.

Names being thrown around on local radio include Canada, Fedora, Briles, and Zac Roper.

Who the hell knows this has been the most bizarre hiring process, but that has become the typical Tennessee way.

Fact is Tennessee has hired another head coach that is in over his head.
I tend to believe this as well..... Pruitt hates all the things that are responsibilities of a head coach, lacks the CEO aspects that the job needs to be truly successful at a D1 Level. Some guys are coordinators only.

This is a horrible take. Guess we were just lucky in those wins vs Auburn and UK????

I looked up as much as I could find on the subject. From what I could find you are correct when it comes to NFL to NFL team but I couldn't find anything about NFL to college.

I don’t get all the comments that make it sound like the sky is falling and Pruitt is clueless. CJP is recruiting and the lack of an OC - only at the moment - isn’t as much of a negative as some are making it out to be. He knows what he’s selling and his desired play style - which the OC will obviously match.

Some seem to forget this guys insane ability to recruit for which he has been widely praised throughout his career.

The sky is not falling because a couple weeks have gone by and some just can’t R-E-L-A-X
