Pure Gold… MS St messageboard

Last night was fun to watch, and definitely there’s some schadenfreude going on.

I’m sure there are similar threads here where Tennessee has been on the receiving end of a beat down. Heck, there’s a related term for it: BVS.

Noticed the same thing. What did they expect Vitello to do? Bring the bat girls along and let them fill in? Lol
I was talking about that with a buddy today. In sports that have a clock, you can take the air out of the ball, so to speak. Baseball is an event-based sport. You can't ask guys to try to get out. You can do things like not steal or going station to station when reasonable. But at some point, the onus is on the other team to get you out.

Those type scores can happened in baseball from time to time. Maybe not 27-2 but really lopsided scores. The losing team must simply accept it and try to regroup for the next game. I have always been treated very well at State games and have a few close friends who played/coaches at State so I certainly don’t wish ill on them. Fan bases usually use these venues to vent. We Vols should be able to understand that I think.

Defending national champions who are also in your conference are down? Hell yes you pour the steam on them and kick them while they’re down, especially if you can do it at their house.

What do they want Vitello to do? He pulled starters in the 5th inning. It is baseball. You are the defending Champs. Does he want the kids to go to the plate and not swing?? What? These kids are trying to get drafted. They are not worried about hurting someone's feelings.

This is how I see it. Are our players (especially the ones that get limited AB’s) supposed to purposely let their batting average take a hit so the other team doesn’t feel bad about themselves?

Update: ALL OF THE VOL'S BATS, confiscating just one WOULD NOT HAVE MATTERED
Yeah, that's why the Arky board has now shifted to 'Roid use to explain the phenomenon. It is an unusual feeling for the modern Tennessee fan to experience a team that is so consistently high quality that opponents begin to question the "physics of possibility" and come away with conspiracy theories.

This was my favorite from last night on the Arkansas board

As soon as each of those three balls were hit, I knew they were out or darned close. Luc's oppo taco was a no-doubter. You could tell immediately by the sound, the swing, and the trajectory off the bat. To say none of them looked like they should go out is ridiculous.

I know it was not a huge crowd but did appreciate how many stayed until the end.
But at some point it becomes an excellent survival story you can tell your grandkids.

I was struck by how many MSU fans were there late and even up to the end. Especially when you compare to the Kentucky fans. I think they were signalling respect to us. They want to see this juggernaut do it's thing for their own eyes.

I’ve always hated that mindset. Hit and keep hitting. You don’t like the game, do something about it.

I’ve coached multiple sports for my kids, our basketball team last season beat a team by 40 and we were still shooting threes til the buzzer. And it didn’t stop us from taking the regular and post season trophies. Why, as a coach, would I tell my team to not do what they’ve been trained to do? Winners win. Lol

Eh, that’s pretty bush league. Other sports have a clock. Dribble out the clock, run the ball, park the bus. Lots of ways to not rub your opponent’s nose in it.

Yeah, have them do what they’re coached to do. But jacking up 3’s up by 40 is the equivalent of throwing bombs in the 4th quarter up by 40. Why not work it around the perimeter a while and work it inside the last five or so minutes? At the end of the day, there are no style points, it’s wins and losses. A 50-point blowout counts the same as a last-second go-ahead score. Get up to that margin by all means, yes, but once you’re there and it’s *safe*, don’t be a Richard. I strongly believe you can never score enough points in the first half. But when they hay’s in the barn, that’s that.

Put your backups in. Have them run the offense. They work hard. Let them run your scheme. Put some stuff on film. They earned it. But there’s a line for sure.

Baseball is different. Baseball has no clock. You have to swing. You have to throw strikes. You have to give the other guy his chance.

A lot of times, blowouts just can’t be avoided. Your team is better, has more talent, is more motivated, whatever. Most of the time blowouts are actually good for both sides — gives some guys some hard-earned playing time, builds confidence, exposes weaknesses. But as a guy who’s been on both sides of a blowout, there’s a way to do it.

Well, we had 5 players so we didn’t have “back ups”. Honestly, idgaf tho. You don’t like it, then beat it.

Yeah that changes the narrative as far as the whole backup thing goes.

But the other points are still valid. Don’t be a d!ck. But with a comment like “You don’t like it, then beat it” on an internet message board to a stranger, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised!
