Not really, but fortunately for him he's at a school where he doesn't really have to. Ole Miss does not expect to beat Alabama, LSU, A&M when they are good, etc. He's not at an elite program, and nobody really thinks of him as an elite head coach.Has Lane ever actually won any big games? He had a preseason Heisman lock (who didn’t make the stage at the end of the year) when he beat a lowly Tennessee team by the skin of his teeth, and he needed a favor from the refs to do that. He is a mediocre coach at a mediocre school, and a lot of people are fine with that. I’m fine with him being there for the next 20 years as well. Everyone else has moved on from him. He has been exposed for being what he actually is.
I totally disagree that it is time for him to "put up or shut up" in this game, because of the aforementioned reason. It's actually a great spot for him, because he's totally capable of meeting their expectations and it is unlikely that OM meaningfully raises their expectations.
