If you measure from the ocean floor, Mauna Kea is about 32,000 ft or so. It's about 14k or so from sea level. I did get a little altitude sickness at the top eventhough I stopped for 1/2 hour at 10k feet to acclimate.

By the way, I drove up there - the only way to mountain climb.
