QB Michael Fromke invited to walk on at UTK

We definitely need depth at the qb position and i wish our local talent well as we need to consistently pull more talent from in state. However, with that said given his stats compared with strength of schedule he seems to me to be an average qb in every respect and would most likely be 3rd string.

hmmm...sounds like a walk-on to me.

You have a firm grasp on the obvious. But with crompton and stephens as our options i wouldnt be surprised if starting a walk on would be our best bet. I just don't think it will be this guy. Kelly washington was a walk on and he lit it up.

Very classy to mock a guy's name. I'm sure Crompton wasn't trying or more probably WAS trying to play bad just to irritate you. Whether the guy ever gets it together as a QB or not, he deserves more respect than that.

BTW, I hope this Cinderella story works out like Kurt Warner's.

Kids gonna run scrimmage offense better than any qb we have ever had. Our defense will be more than prepared with this guy on board.

This kid was a pretty good HS QB. Saw him a few times. Tall drop back passer...and CAK likes to throw the ball.

It's hard to tell by the stats exactly how good this kid is. His rushing stats indicate that he is a mobile guy since his ypc are in positive territory. A 54% completion percentage is not bad. It's not great, either. He averaged 13.25 yards per completion, so they did throw the ball down the field often. This could be why his completion percentage was lackluster. Judging by the longest completed passes of each game, it seems to me that he has a big arm. Not all of his throws could be "catch and runs." He played against low-enrollment talent but he was surrounded by it as well.

When I saw him, he has the look of a QB. He is tall and skinny. CAK likes to throw the ball a lot. I don't think the really throw it down field very often. They are a playoff team year in and year out...recently anyway. I think Alcoa has knocked them out each of the last couple of years.

Overall they are a good 2A team. Not sure of their new classification. I think he has good game management skills. I don't remember him making dumb mistakes.

I think he will be a good kid to have at UT...once again, congrats.

Hey, I am glad to see it for a local kid. Probably never see the field, but what an experience he will have for the next 4-5 years.

Nice. Never know how this will turn out, sounds like he is the prototypical style Kiffin likes.

If it's the same kid I'm thinking of, I had him in my group at Disciple Now for the youth group at my church and he was a really good guy.

If nothing else,it show us these Coaches have supreme confidence in their ability to "Coach-em Up".As far as the future with this kid, stranger things have happened.

Congrats to Michael Fromke. Who knows he may turn into a very good QB. He could be overlooked by a lot of colleges.

I remember another local QB a few years ago that wasn't recruited by any major university. His only offers were from Middle Tennessee State and UT-Chattanooga. He went to a camp at Marshall University and was offererd a scholarship.

Some of you may remember him. He played at Knox Webb.
He was drafted by the New York Jets 18th overall in the 2000 NFL Draft. He played college football at Marshall. He has won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award twice, in 2006 and in 2008. In 2008 he finished 2nd in MVP voting to Peyton Manning. He is also statistically the most accurate quarterback in NFL history with a career completion percentage of 66.0%. Chad Pennington turned out to be a very good QB.

I am not comparing Michael Fromke to Chad Pennington. I am only pointing out that good players do get overlooked in the recruiting process.

I wish the very best to Michael Fromke.
