'25 QB transfer prospects (Joey Aguilar)

You're right, UT is not paying him. Whatever Spyre is paying is just the rate it would take to land an experienced QB in this more limited Spring transfer window. Heupel won't be forced to start him. If the guy doesn't outplay Merk in fall camp, then he just becomes a capable backup...which provides a lot of value considering the circumstances the team was put in. This automatic starter talk is silly. If your point is that the 1.2 million is a sign that they expect him to be the starter, then say that. Otherwise, your post is a little contradictory.
I did say it, he’s not being paid 1.2 million dollars this season to watch from the sidelines.

Regardless, of who wins the QB competition in fall camp, UT is NOT paying Aguilar 1.2 million dollars to stand and watch from the sidelines.
why? UT has paid all of our last 3, and 4 of the last 5, coaches more to not coach.

at least as a back up he has some actual value to the team. even if he doesn't start day 1.

heck we paid our last QB 2 million to sit on the side line.

Watson Brown broke down some film of his game and also liked much of it saying he anticipates the throw well. Something he said Nico didn't do well. He also said he is a gunslinger and will try and fit a tight throw in but it's better to have this that coach can throttle some than to coach and kid who is afraid to make the throw and never will. Will definitely be interesting year. In CHRIST Alone

He does do a good job of going through his progressions, unlike nico did, and milton to an extent
I think the difference is that Nico relied on his athleticism far too often. We actually have a QB now who is willing to go through his progressions now, and who seems to have good pocket presence and knows when to run.

Aguilar's first FBS start came against No.17 UNC and Drake Maye one week after relieving the injured App State starting QB.

Watched every snap. Dude almost beat Drake Maye and a much more talented UNC team that day. There are a ton of throws he makes that are elite in this one. Matt Hasselbeck was gushing the whole game about him. Totally unphased by the moment.

At this point I'll be shocked if our passing game isn't signicantly improved.

If he can hit the deep ball, we're gonna be trouble for everyone. We shall see.
Definitely…my thoughts were based more on what I saw as Nico’s flaws as a passer…holding it too long and consistent inaccuracy…if he can be better than Nico at those things we’ll be really good…throw in a consistent deep ball and we’ll be in the playoff mix

Orrrrrrr don’t waste your time with HS. They are gonna transfer anyways if they don’t play.

Don’t care about player retention, don’t care how other posters feel. Live or die by the portal, that’s college sports now.

Our coaches can adapt or we can find new ones. Simple.

Tony, KC, and now RB are all doing well in the portal….why not Heupel?

Last year’s haul was pretty dang good, but other than that, meh.

Watching his film, Joey Aguilar is a good enough qb to win in the SEC. Build around him; he’s got enough good qualities that will keep us moving in the right direction. We need to develope and or find him a few more playmakers on the outside and slot. I believe our oline, rbs and tight ends will be good enough to take the pressure off of Joey to have to always make plays. Our defense should keep us in games as well. He could be really good for us as long as he has the right supporting cast.
