Has anyone mentioned Cam Rising? There are significant durability issues with him, as he's had a major injury every single year of college. But he was a pretty fantastic QB the last time he was fully healthy (2022). Even had some first round buzz heading into the Rose Bowl vs Penn St (until he tore his ACL in the 3Q).
Rising is no longer on Utah's roster and as far as google can tell me, he didn't enter the draft. So technically he's available, even though he is not in the portal.
Those teams are typically stacked with top round draft picks literally everywhere else. we are not.
From the spring portal? Maybe if we've fully committed to a more mainstream offense vs the hyper speed Heupel offense, I could get a little excited. Just not sure what level of success is realistically obtainable at this point in time....much less how ready anyone coming in at this late date will be in August. That’s fine if you can get one more good OL, a good WR and a studdddd RB
Agreed. A lot of 1st round caliber talent, even though only 2-3 have played close to that level so far (Josephs, McCoy, maybe Carter since he was a true freshman).Matthews and Carter have a legit shot at going in to first few rounds if they live up to the hype. So does Josephs.
Our RT has a day 1 level ceiling, so does our best cornerback. And if our LT makes a jump this season, he could be in that group too.
There’s talent. I agree we should add more. But there’s some high draft picks on this team.
I think 1 OL and 1 WR will help tremendously. From the spring portal? Maybe if we've fully committed to a more mainstream offense vs the hyper speed Heupel offense, I could get a little excited. -AP ( on Altmyer)Yes I tossed his name out because someone made a good point on here yesterday about his experience in a similar system and I wondered out loud in the chat if that one made sense. But then I thought about it and tossing his name out when it’s just an opinion was going to cause some to think I’m hinting when I wasn’t. So I took it down cause I didn’t want confusion and he is in a place that won 9 games last year. Tennessee has not done much to this point. They have been watching some of the guys that are currently in the portal but not much traction to this point.
AP and the 247 guys are not going to know anything right now because we are not suppose to be using back channels. We may hear something later today or tomorrow. But I’m sure UT is working it behind the scenes and being smart about it.-AP ( on Altmyer)
Sounds like our short list of guys didn’t end up working out
I don’t think adding proven offensive talent is as easy as you think with an unproven QB. What are they selling these guys on? They haven’t watched Merk or GMac play — they’re not taking that risk.I think 1 OL and 1 WR will help tremendously.
If we decide to ride Merk and get some guys from the portal to put around him, then I can see us having a 8 win season pretty easily.
If we didn’t hear/see the spring game then everyone would still be riding the Merk train.
The kid has a bad day in a terrible football setting with his life being completely turned around within 24 hours and some people have already given up on him.
Remember, about 90%+ of this board was ready to vote Dormady for heisman after his spring game.

They just need to spend big on a safety and DT and call it a day. They’re not getting a difference maker on offense if they don’t find a QB.
Same as last night. They are going to get a starter from portal. Cash folks are ready to prove a point in this instance. I still think Luke is leader in clubhouse right now. They are engaging with multiple reps though.
