Has there been known interest in the Appy St QB that transfered to UCLA that will be losing his job to Nico. From what I read about him he could be a Hooker type QB in Hyps offense.

Tulsa figured out Heupels offense and they were their kryptonite. Now the DCs in this league have it pegged. We've not run Hyps offense since. The offense of '22 is dead. Heck, even Heupel didn't think Hooker was a fit for his system so he went out and grabbed Milton. It was blind luck. I don't think you can look at anyone in HS or in the portal and predict how they'll perform at UT. Different league and different supporting cast. Everyone thought Nico was the anointed one and we see how that turned out. If UCLA sees Nico as superior to the kid from App St, it makes you wonder.

Teams laid all over the field when they ran the hurry up deal and maybe Heupel just got fed up with it. Anyway we haven't really seen that offense since 22 like you said. Coaches have to adjust also at times and he's done that, but the offense hasn't looked the same for a few years now. That's why Nico's camp's claim that it's the offense is BS. They slowed it down for him and he still couldn't get it..

ehhhhh....as retiring Lee Corso would say, "not so fast my friend".

I do agree that Hooker was blind luck...he was a perfect fit for what Huepel wants to do and it was a rare match of talent and scheme. That was our NC year and MI sign stealing (yes I am part of that conspiracy) and Hooker's injury killed that story.

But, since Hooker we had Milton (VFL, but could not process the defense/reads correctly), and Nico (just didn't pick up the offense and couldn't process the plays being called in). Either way, we did not have a QB that could run at that speed and that allowed other teams to see and adjust on the fly (especially with the speakers in the helmets).

To run this offense, we need speed on play coming in, getting to the line, reading the defense, snap, decision, action. So we need a cerebral QB who can process data quickly and prevent the lulls we have that allows a defense to call down a different play because the QB can't run the offense at the needed speed.

Huepel's offense requires speed. without it, the scheme slows and bogs down. Would not surprise me if they are doing some cerebral questions to QBs in the portal to see how quick they can think.

Agree with this - takes a different kind of QB. I sometimes wonder how Dobbs would have performed in CJH's offense.

Just saw where the Appy State QB at UCLA has seen the writing on the wall with Nico and putting feelers out about entering the portal. Whether he could run Hypes offense like Hooker is an unknow but seems to me he should at least get some interests from TN.

The offense has not looked the same because he hasn’t found a QB that can read the D as fast and accurate as quickly as Hooker did.

I think we are seeing to run Hype’s original O the QB has to be very cerebral in addition to being Athletic and good QB

We want a qb who won't compete against Nico?

We don't know the situation there. Maybe he knows there is no competition. You think UCLA going to bring Nico in and pay big $ to sit him on the bench, I don't.? Nico getting a lot more than than the Appy St. kid is getting, guarantee you that.

Your avatar caused me to read that in Jim Carrey's voice with the tone of "We've landed on the moon?!"

funny enough, actually saw one of the "behind the scenes" youtube shorts the other day where the director said Jim Carrey totally adlibbed that scene. That framed paper was already in the bar they used and wasnt a prop. They had already cut but thankfully the camera was still rolling, and they left the scene in..........classic movie during Carrey's hay-day.

It was a good idea for a minute but this has already turned into a discussion about Heupel’s offense. This class needs to pay attention!
We have 300 posters who want to discuss football. We have 5-6 who think that the rest of us are here for their expertise on football.

A lot of ppl/QBs can be smart not saying Nicos dumb but there's a difference than being smart and an instantaneous processor like Hooker. I think Josh got frustrated with Joe& Nico everything was there, but Joe overthrew multiple TDs as did Nico but in a different manner. I call these wasted downs/drive killers. Instead of a 1st down or a TD. You are facing 2nd and 10 or if you ran for 3 yards on 1st down and totally missed on a 2nd down pass then you're in 3rd and advantage defense. We ended up in this so many times last year if we hadn't had our d or a D Sampson, we end up 6 & 6. When Josh lost any confidence in Nico the defense was in control vs this offense.
