Question about Elarbee and Mays

I do not watch the OL nearly to the level of detail that I do the DL. So, I am hypothesizing here mostly. The SEC and other major elite programs are the best of the best. When we play at a fast pace, we have already said that we will sacrifice some things with execution for pace (I can’t remember the interview but it was a couple years ago). However, playing at that pace with SEC sized OL seems like a bad marriage. We need to be smaller and fitter to play with better technique to go fast, but that also kills is against the best programs. So, now we have guys big enough but are not really great fits and we have a Catch 22 scenario here. Maybe. I do know our technique is kinda awful at times. I mostly watch DL play and the stuff we do on the OL at times is really bad.

If Elarbee is as bad as some of us think, don’t you think Cooper, Cade, and Daddy Mays would have exposed that by now?

Cade is a starter in the NFL and played under Sam Pittman at UGA when they had one of the best OLs in the country, so he probably knows what good coaching looks like. Don’t you think he probably talks ball with his bro? And isn’t dad still pretty well connected to to UT?

Seems to me like if Elarbee sucks, we’d either hear rumors of displeasure or Cooper would have hit the portal before finishing up his eligibility to improve his draft stock.

MAYBE he’s just a bad recruiter like some of the insiders have suggested but he’s still a darn good coach 🤷🏻‍♂️

I hope he is because if we’re going to stick with our smash mouth style on offense we’re going to need a dominant OL
No UT player or coach is ever as good or bad as "VolNation" opinons would have you believe...

As far as family goes, no matter their connection to the player and/or program, they tend to keep their opinions to themselves, as they should. You never intentionally want to make the road ahead harder for your family members.

Great transfer portal recruiting, not great coaching.
You could be right, but it could also be the previous DB's weren't SEC calibre players. I really liked our DB play this season. McCoy was one of the best corners in the country. Gibson played really well. Boo Carter is a star in the making. Brooks had a very good year. Turrentine was solid. I don't recall the Vols having a better defensive backfield in more than 20 years. Do you?
