Question about OL Austin Sanders

I'm sure you will get a nonbiased opinion from his Dad.

He's been very unbiased and down to earth with his interactions on here...when he started posting on here, it was a great inside look of the process...he's good people.

Sanders is a RS freshman and likely second in line for playing time at OG (behind Wiesman) should one of our RS jr interior lineman go down. That's not too shabby.

He'll work his way onto the field and contribute in some capacity, but he's still young.

Exactly. Tyrann Mathieu only got 2 "legit" offers and those were LSU and UT.

His only other offers were FIU, La-Monroe, Tulane, Southern Miss and SMU.

Why didn't anyone else offer him? He's grew up an LSU fan and he's from New Orleans. Not worth the effort to still lose out in the end.

Yeah well brett favre only had one div 1 offer and im pretty sure it was for db lol and we all know how he turned out

Couldn't disagree more.
No coach ever wants to go to the third player at any position and thank God we rarely have to.

What about injuries and fatigue? The top teams are three deep. We will be close to that goal in'15.

His dad seems like a great guy and posts often concerning Austin. I have found his posts to be interesting from a player's family viewpoint.

In the past he has been upfront about Austin's successes and struggles.

BTW, OP did not ask for unbiased info about Austin.

And a couple years later, he's a redshirt freshman in the 2-deep for the University of Tennessee Volunteers. :loco:

I had to read all of this before I said anything! Haha, Austin, lazy?!? I don't know what games you watched but lazy wasn't there! And Austin was not offered by a lot because everyone knew it was a waste of time. He got phone calls, lots of em, Ohio St., Alabama, and Michigan was waiting in the parking lot after school, and there were more but none got over invested because he was so solid on the Vols. But he's doing fine, waiting his time, humble, not cocky atall. He will play, not behind Dylan but with him! He's getting bigger, stronger, faster, and still looking good, he wants to win, if that means waiting on 2nd team til coach thinks he's ready, then so be it! And one thing you got to remember, he was(not sure about now) one of the only 9 on the team that could squat over 600lbs, not being biased, just telling the truth. And he didn't have concussion issues, he had a concussion during spring practice but did play in the O&W game and did well!

Me too. And I can say without a doubt he was anything but lazy. There was one sequence where he pancaked 12 guys in 11 plays.

See...Sanders not seeing the field yet is a good thing, IMO.

To me, the ideal situation would be that your OLs don't get serious snaps until their RS Soph year. That means they've had 2+ years of college S&C, nutrition, and practice. When its their time, they're ready to roll.

I realize we saw a lot of true freshmen OLs over this recent stretch, but Sanders/Kendrick/etc are on the path they need to be on to be effective.

Look at successful teams...they aren't starting a bunch of 1st or 2nd year players. They might have 1 or 2, but they're surrounded by 3rd/4th/5th year guys.

Sanders was the 2nd-team LG today, per RTI and other media (and Marques Pair subbed in at RG for an injured Dylan Wiesman). With how thin our depth is at OL he'll definitely see the field this year.

Didn't see his first seven , but that eighth post showed his hand...troll job...rcvol class...at least that guy halfheartedly made an effort before spilling it...don't worry about him, he won't last. We appreciate you and your boy. :salute:

I've had the privilege of teaching this young man in class and there is nothing lazy about him! He is one of the most polite and respectful young men I've encountered. Being able to squat 600 lbs results only by dedication, effort, and commitment. He's exactly what we want in a Vol: highest level of character, good in the classroom, and wanting to earn his spot on the OL. Lazy? U have no idea.

By the way, Mr. Sanders is a big ole boy himself. Be careful my friend. Be very careful.

Austin is a great kid! He's learning, and honestly, I would hate to see him go in now and fail. I like the fact that the coaches aren't rushing to start him, if he gets a chance to start in '15, then guess what??? That means they feel he is ready! There are a lot around here(Cleveland) that want him to fail, idk why, but they do! We appreciate everybodys positive comments, we know there will be negative ones too! We know that hes not going to stop every defender every play, but we know that the arm chair analysts that say negative about him couldnt do it either!!
