But we were winning 20 games so maybe the key is to let the team run itself. As a vol b-ball fan all I have ever seen is Wade Houston, Kevin O'Neal, Jerry Green, and Buzz Peterson. So to me Jerry Green is great but to the older people on here they hate him because they have seen better coaches here.

So your willing to sell out to win a few games. Sorry but true Vol fans aren't.

Like i said Jerry is the only coach that has one since I have been a vol fan. Too young to remember the last good coach we had. I know he wasn't the best coach but he won games and that was good enough for me. CBP is gonna make us forget about Jerry and Wade and Buzz and Kevin.

The reason most of us love Ray Mears is because he brought UT Basketball out of the wilderness and put it on the map. too bad the ones that followed let UT drop off the map.

Don't forget about Don Devoe. He was the most succesful BB coach the Vols ever had.Took us to the final 8 and several sweet 16's. UT dropped off the map after he left.

Tennessee has NEVER been in the Elite Eight. Devoe was in the round of 16 once, when the tournament had a smaller field. We lost to Virginia because Michael Brooks missed some free throws at the end of the game.

I could have swore that we played and lost to Virginia twice, once in the sweet 16 and the other in the elite 8. Oh well I guess my memories aren't so good. He did take us to the final 4..........of the NIT :D

We did play Virginia twice, once in the round of 16 and once in the second round. I believe the years were '81 and '82, during Ralph Sampson's time at UVA. See, you're memory isn't that far off.

How about the men move to Alumni gym until the prove they deserve better.

Actually, Alumni Gym doesn't exist anymore. The building is there, but its now Alumni Hall. It houses music, perfoming arts and various other classes. The entire builiding is now a large theatre, lecture rooms, and smaller performance halls. It's very nice, I had my last accounting class there.

Also, while I do not agree with govols2316, he is right about one thing. The ONLY sport at UT that makes any money is football. Football generates enougf money to operate all of the rest of the sports--men's and women's. The Lady Vols only "break even" with the help of a $6million subsidy paid from the men's athletic department to the women's athletic department every year.

I have a solution.  We can let the Lady Vols have the Tommy Bowl(which I despise due to the atmosphere, Nazi ushers, etc.) and the men can go back to Stokely

Stokley would be so much better.

DeVoe is not even close to being the most successful coach UT has had

The MENS program breaks even.  The women's brings in money to support themselves, and some of the other women's programs.

Not according to the latest US Department of Education figures. The men's team netted over 6 million in revenues over expenses compared to less than one million for the women. What is more striking is how the ailing men's program brings in so much more women than a team near the top of the woman's sport. That just shows how much bigger a sport the men's game is on the natioinal stage and it suggests that in the long run, the health of the men's program will be a higher priority than the Lady Vols. Money talks and figures don't lie.

Great post. It's always refreshing when someone presents the facts as they are, not as they would like them to be.

Nice stats as I assumed the Ladies would have been more myself with all the titles and Final Four runs...just shows how much money is generated by mens bball.

They mentioned when UNC won this past season that if you put a price tag on the exposure the TarHeels got in their tourney run it would have been around 50 million dollars. Serious money there.

John Ward himself took some heat when he pointed out some things about Lady Vol attendance.

To the credit of the Lady Vol program, they are not a charity case like most Title IX mandated women's BB programs are, but the figures show that it's football first and then MEN'S basketball that carry the financial load at UT.

Nothing against Summit, but Ray Mears' success built that arena and it's a shame Pat's name is on that court alone without Mears name being there with her's.

Is the court gonna have "The Summit" logo on it for men's and women's games.  The women's basketball team can do whatever they want to do to the court, but for men't games they need to take that crap off of it.  I am tired of hearing about "The Head" being the winningest coach in College Basketball.  Comparing men's and women's B-Ball is like comparing apples and oranges.

Wow bench warmer, I wish Mike Hamilton had nuts the size of yours!
To say Summit is crap only relegates you to hell when you die. You should move to Lexington.
