Question about UT basketball..

And that is 100% Martins fault.

100%? No.

Big percent? Yes.

I know it's been beaten, and people have their own stance, so idk why I'm gonna say it again but...his first class, forget it. He stood no chance with that class and basically filled it with bodies, luckily we got Rich or it'd really have been bad. The second class was much of the same, but he did bring in stokes and a guy who had some higher interest in Moore. Now, those that know anything about recruiting know its about relationships. You're looking 3-4 years of relationships Martin was behind on, because the guys he needs here, he wasn't calling while at MSU. 2013 and more so 2014 are the classes he has no excuse with.

Well 2013 class is looking pretty damn solid.

Ole Miss goes out to JUCO and gets an outside shooter. For some reason, Cuonzo does not recruit shooters. McRae is the only one now. Maybe Reese will develop into one, but he is not there yet. McBee needs Tommy John surgery and Golden's shoulder could be the reason for his poor shooting and overall play. Stokes gets double and triple teamed constantly, but can't shoot better than 50% free throws when he is fouled. Richardson makes shots off his drives, but all the opponents have to do is foul him and he ends up missing half of his free throws.

Look at that JUCOs offer list, a lot of coaches missed that one.

You have some good points, but does the 2013 class have any shooters? idk. Maymon/Stokes combo can be awesome next year, but someone needs to take the pressure off them by hitting some outside shots---occasionally, at least.

I keep up with the team and try to analyze as much as I can, but I'm simply confused. What's wrong with this team? What does Cuonzo need to do to get the most out of this team? We've played teams that are far less talented than we are, even without Maymon, and we've managed to lose. Tonight was a perfect example. Surely Ole Miss isn't anymore talented than we are, yet the coach finds ways to put his players in position to score.

IMO we looked horrible on BOTH ends of the floor. Stokes has been a complete let down thus far, and the only person who seems to be playing with any fire is Jordan McRae.. who should have been putting up good numbers considering his offensive skill set.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS TEAM?

It's the Knoxville stench hanging in the atmosphere. Only cure is slate wiping and winning.

What is so solid about the 2013 class? Hubbs was a real awesome get by Martin.....The PG he signed I think I could compete with if we went outside and played. AJ Davis is a possible find and I kind of like the signing but he is not a top 150 guy and espn has him as a 2 star and ranked 79th at his position. That doesn't look too solid to me.

Hubbs went 8/10 from three his last game and most were from NBA range I was told.

You couldn't guard landry, and I can arrange it if you make it worth my time.

ESPN hasn't updated AJs stuff, and I wouldn't use ESPN for recruiting. If you go to 247 they have composite and he's around 180 iirc.

Edit: 189 by 247, and 223 composite ranking.

He has SEC and ACC offers, that's usually a good sign.

The class is ranked top 25, and if they add elder and/or Thompson that ranking will go up.

I don't think I could guard him but I don't think he could make the shot when he got by me so it works it's way out.

He has offers from Georgia,Clemson, Georgia tech, and auburn not exactly cream of the crop.

I forgot to check 247 but did the others....still at the 180 range he is not exactly thought too highly of. The class is considered decent based off of one player.....Hubbs.

Espn also has Hubbs as a 4 star if that tells you anything.

A.J. Davis

Thats a big if? Bc they could go down if other teams add players as well.

I always laugh at people that say that stuff, and maybe you're MJ idk, but I'm guessing your more like the rest of posters and fall under average joe. I had some buddies who based on Jordan howell, oh I could burn him blah blah blah. All my buddies played high school ball, and one went on to Cleveland state. Well I knew Jordan through some people, arranged the game at the Y Jordan played at, and needless to say those buddies no longer talk crap about any UT player. They didn't score once and Jordan outscored them all 11-0.

How many other players had Martin signed with those kinds of offers? My point exactly.

He's been bringing guys in who aren't even SEC level, Atleast this next class has 3 and maybe 4 guys who all had SEC offers.

They could, but it's almost a certainty they're adding Atleast one more. And if somehow they added Thompson and elder through football, that's pushing top 15.

Oh my gosh, what're people gonna say then?

I was being sarcastic about how I don't think he is close to SEC level player. In reality I can barely stay in my fourth grade daughter.....she is becoming quite the basketball player.

I don't know if getting a player that finally has div 1 offers is a good thing or illustrates the poor job Martin has done recruiting.

If his recruiting gets better, I will be a happy fan......he will have to prove it and he has not gotten the job done so far.

I'm not referring to D1 offers, because all the guys he has signed have D1 offers. I was referring to Davis, and how he has SEC/ACC offers, and that being a good sign. Outside of stokes nobody that I can think of had SEC offers (Richardson didn't even)...so that makes me feel good about Davis.

Now obviously Martin is in charge of recruiting and the fact that in his 3rd class are only his 2nd and 3rd legitimate recruits is his fault....however, I believe strongly in the relationship aspect, especially from him going mid major to UT. So, the trend appears upwards to me, this next class is by far his best. If 2014 is better than 2013 then we will be in very good shape, atleast from a talent standpoint.

It could be but if he has missed on AJ Davis and recruiting does not pick up from here on out.....2014 we could hit rock bottom in the SEC.

Lots of ifs huh??? He did get Davis so not sure why that's even being addressed. Actually if he didn't take Davis he'd have had J3, but passed on him thinking they had Nichols.

If we are playing ifs though....this class could potentially add thompson, elder and Wilson. 3 legitimate players, 2 of which would use football scholarships, and that'd make this a borderline top 10 class. There's some IFs lol

I meant if missed on AJ being a good quality SEC player. He may get those guys and this class turns our program but I don't like our chances. Especially guys trying to play both sports, that rarely works out.

I wouldn't rely on those guys, but we aren't wasting a scholarship on them so what do you have to lose?
