Question about Vols Offense

I don't understand why UT fans think that they are going to have such a big advantage in the passing game over their opponents in 2014. Check this out: Quinton Dunbar, an average WR on a terrible offense last year for Florida, had 40 receptions and 548 yards receiving. That would have made him the #1 WR at UT last year in terms of receiving yards and he didn't even lead Florida in receiving. He was #2 behind Solomon Patton (556, 6 TD), and everyone knows how bad UF's offense was, especially late in the season last year.

So it's not like UT had a ton of production last year out of some of these highly regarded players. In addition to that, UT has a guy starting at QB with more INT than TD and a completion percentage below 60% for his career, and his top 3 tackles are going to be a freshman, a walk-on, and a JUCO, only one of which has ever even stepped foot on a D1 College Football field.

So why is the passing game going to be so good? I would argue that your running game, given the experience and quality of UT's guards, and the ability of the RBs, would make that the strength of the offense. Lane is solid and everyone is saying Hurd is going to beast on people.

So... why does everyone keep talking about the passing game? The running game looks far more dangerous. Tennessee, BTW, was #44 in the country rushing last year and #109 passing.

I'm sure some of you will hate, cause I'm an opposing fan, but come on. One week till football I need some football talk.

The reason the passing game is being discussed is that the starting QB was just named last week.

It has little to nothing to do with anyone with a shred of common sense thinking it's a strength of the team.

Worley has done nothing to prove he is anything special and this O line is downright scary.

Find something more productive to do with your time.

Maybe bedazzle your jorts or shop for some more fake gold chains at the strip mall. Perhaps another perm for the mullet?

The Wolf of Vol Street
You heard it here first, folks.

Good one. Actually heard it somewhere else before ... maybe you, on here?

Anyway, Wolf, Helm, and Alex "Trissidy" Ellis (heard it here first, LOL) are going to be light years better than the TE situation last year. This alone will make a our passing game noticeably better.

We didn't have much of a passing game but I promise you gator
Marquez North, VP, PIG, and Josh Malone would all start at flordia. And you lost to Georgia Southern so you got no opinion on my Vols you got your own problems

:eek:k: I guess that means GSU is better than the Vols cause UF beat them? The 2013 season results for both of these teams have little bearing on what will happen in 2014, unless there are a lot of injuries again.

Also, no, all of those people would not start. North I'll give you, and Pig fo in the slot, maybe. But not the others. UF has some of their own weapons at WR that will have a chance to prove people wrong this year.

Regardless, I feel I've gotten some good answers, and I can see why everyone feels positive, and I guess I was taking it out of context because I guess most of it was in reference to Utah State, so my bad on that one.

The passing game should be better because it was terrible last year and some of our skill-position players (QB, coupla receivers) have another year of experience. Better does not mean good, correct: we'll have to see how it plays out. The WR corps looks talented but some of the receivers have no experience, and meanwhile the OL is a major question mark, and so frankly is the QB.

You guys just forget who I am because I post for a couple of weeks before kickoff when I am really desperate for football and then I usually stop posting here sometime after mid-season every year. I'm generally pretty friendly every year. I had some anger issues in 2010 but I blame that on the esophageal spasms.... :)

I still can't figure out why Freak lets people who are non-UT fans like you on this site. Go to your own message board in the sewer.

Because it's a football forum about the vols and we all like to talk about football? It generates good discussion.

Easy to see why you have 1098 posts with only 16 likes. Not sure how you got those.

Let's be gracious hosts.

Normally I am OC but I am getting tired of fans from other programs getting on here and questioning things about our program. It's just a pet peeve of mine. I don't go onto any other teams message boards and I would just rather have Vol fans on ours.

You have an new offensive coordinator from a mid-major-caliber team, a position coach posing as a head coach, and you have the impudence to come onto our board and trash our receivers.

Your jorts must be a little too tight; cutting off the blood flow to your brain.

More targets for Worley to hit. Very talented receivers as targets. If Worley can get rid of the ball quicker(due to OL) and go through progressions...we will surely make great strides this season in the passing game. If Worley comes out staring down a receiver, passing into coverage, and totally missing open slot/TE's........ Lot of ifs at this point.???

The 2013 offensive line starters only allowed 23 sacks in two years, and only gave up 15 in 2013. I doubt UT only gives up 15 sacks again in 2014, given what they lost on the OL and what they bring back.

The addition of a legit receiving threat at TE should help, I agree. But again, does that make it a strength? I still think the running game would be better.

You better hope the Gators get more receptions than you get likes! lol I'll give you one.
