I just got off the phone with a Big 12 assistant coach. He told me that he has been told that the reason Anthony Grant has emerged as the top candidate for the Alabama job is that Paul Bryant, Jr. opposed the candidacy of Mike Anderson? I've spent a fair amount of time over the years in Alabama. I full well know their reverence for all things Bryant borders on insanity. That said, are those people so far removed from sanity that the son of a football coach who had been dead for over 25 years can dictate who the basketball coach will be?

People over here are puzzled at the news that UGA hasn't even asked for permission to speak to Grant.

My understanding is that they haven't asked to talk to Grant because they're waiting for Missouri to lose so they can take a run at Anderson.

That doesn't seem like a worthwhile move for Anderson to make.
And, I hope he doesn't lose soon. I picked them to reach their first Final 4.

A few Bama fans are saying that that the UA Board of Trustees has some "irreparable" issues with him from while he was at UAB.

Leaving Missouri to come to Alabama or (especially) Georgia seems like a lateral career move, at best, unless it comes down to nothing more than dollars.

Bill Laurie has billions of dollars and he loves to donate them to Mizzou.

Here is the scuttlebutt from B'ham, where I was today:
1) Grant to Bama, a done deal.......providing Virginia doesn't come up with a better deal.
2) One of the Board members, not PB jr, opposed Anderson based on personal problems while Anderson was at UAB. Apparently UAB and UAT have the same board?
3) Anderson to Georgia.
4) Dan Issel to become the "basketball AD" at Kentucky and go after Michigan State's current head coach.

CQS, wow havent gave him a thought for years. Never bought into him after Norm retired. I could just see him getting MU put on probation. No idea what he is up to now. More than likely his share of coeds. You know what he is doing now hat?

He's the coach of the Austin Toros in the D-League.

Apparently from sources here in Bama, the University is going to pay Grant $2 millon and committed to upgrading the practice facilities for basketball.

Also the question came up which is the better basketball program Alabama or the University of Virginia? I would have to say UVA since BB will always be second to FB at Bama.
