Snyder was college basketball's version of Christian Bale's character in American Psycho.

More like a Greek Tragedy: Helped lead Duke to three final four's in the late 80's. Got a JD degree from prestigious Duke University, married Larry Brown's daughter, went to an Elite Eight with Mizzou.......then scandal and NCAA violations brought it all down. I heard at on time was in rehab for cocaine abuse. I don't think anyone ever questioned his coaching ability as he beat Kansas on a regular basis.

Anyone that has the first clue about basketball and watched his teams at Mizzou questioned his ability to coach. Also, there's nothing tragic about a pompus, incompetent junkie failing. I find it incredibly funny.

Is Bob Knight being mentioned for any of the job openings like Bama, UVA, or UGA? or is he done with coaching?

I just got off the phone with a Big 12 assistant coach. He told me that he has been told that the reason Anthony Grant has emerged as the top candidate for the Alabama job is that Paul Bryant, Jr. opposed the candidacy of Mike Anderson? I've spent a fair amount of time over the years in Alabama. I full well know their reverence for all things Bryant borders on insanity. That said, are those people so far removed from sanity that the son of a football coach who had been dead for over 25 years can dictate who the basketball coach will be?

My friend (a huge Alabama fan) was talking about how Bryant Jr. has apparently screwed them over so many times and has wayy too much influence. He said that this Bryant basically lives off of his dad and that they value his opinion way more than they should. So yes. Apparently, he is pretty removed from sanity.

Here is the scuttlebutt from B'ham, where I was today:
1) Grant to Bama, a done deal.......providing Virginia doesn't come up with a better deal.
2) One of the Board members, not PB jr, opposed Anderson based on personal problems while Anderson was at UAB. Apparently UAB and UAT have the same board?3) Anderson to Georgia.
4) Dan Issel to become the "basketball AD" at Kentucky and go after Michigan State's current head coach.

same school system, I went to UA in Huntsville. It's weird they won't let us have a fball team because they said it would take away from people watching the Tide play. Look UA of H'ville is a DII school, its not going to take away from the Tide. My college coach said that if they had to do over again, they wouldn't let UAB have a fball team.

I few comments I can add:

1. To the original question about the power of PBBJr - yes he has much power on the BoT. Why? Because Bammers are Bammers.

2. The BoT is (as has been pointed out) over UA, UAB and UAH. It is almost entirely comprised of UA grads and when it comes to athletics they protect the Capstone.

3. There is bad blood in athletics between UA and UAB dating back to Gene Bartow. Bammers never forget (maybe why the elephant). Also, UAB supporters are overly antagonistic when it comes to the relationship. Some local supporters/elected officials want the government to mandate UA play UAB. Paranoia from UA? Who would have thunk it?

4. I'd hate to see Mike Anderson go to Bama - like him/hate Bama. I'm still pulling for Gottfried to be rehired...
