I was wondering if Pili could possibly get a medical redshirt year due to his injury and it appears he redshirted already at BYU. If not what a terrible break for him and the team as it is similar to the Aaron Rodgers situation.

Does he have “1 year to play 1” as a grad transfer and there is no possibility for him to gain another season?

Losing both Pili and Mays were brutal losses.

Medical redshirts are different from ordinary redshirts and not sure there is a limit to them. If his injury is deemed to be season ending, he would qualify and be able to play next year, I think.
Hopefully he can get a medical redshirt if he wants to come back. Would hate for him to end his college career like that. I know Brandon Kennedy a few years ago seems like he got to play 6 or 7 years using redshirts and medical redshirts.

Out for the season if I’m not mistaken.
The vagueness from the coaching staff is pretty annoying.

This if from last week:

"But we’re hoping to get him back sometime before the end of the season," added Jean-Mary. "Don’t know when that’s gonna be.”

If somehow we are 9-1 going into the UGA game, I’d bet they find a way to play him. Otherwise, at his age, we probably don’t see him.

Inconvenient for fans, sure, but I like the approach of keeping things under wraps. Why let USCe know who to gameplan for?

Yeah, we should have access to someone's private healthcare data because, I mean, we need to know. It's our rights as fans to know this person's healthcare situation!

The nerve of this coach not to tell us the specific diagnosis and prognosis for someone we only know via his athletics. We have rights!!!! Don't they know who we are????

I guarantee you that Beamer knows Pili is not playing. In fact, its safe to assume that their entire team knows.

Besides, yesterday Heup said he expects Joe to be available . If he wanted to play mind games with the roster, he had a perfect opportunity to do that yesterday. He could have easily said we are getting Nico ready if Joe can’t go and then boom, they have to prepare for 2 Qbs.

I dont think it has anything to do with mind games. I think its more they just don’t want to get into the conversation because of the HIPAA liability of disclosing injury information. Otherwise they are extremely inconsistent with it so that part doesnt make sense.

Good stretch. Timelines = return to play, not reveal your health issues. But im really enjoying your enthusiasm this morning.
You have no right to that info just as I have no right to your healthcare info. Your employer might but you aren't his employer.

Leave the kids alone. They're hurt. They like to play football and they'll play when they can.

Never asked for healthcare info, only a return to play if expected. Keep reaching!

Get a coaching job at UT if you want inside info.

I want to know when Cooper Mays will play but I don't expect the staff to text me or anyone else about that because it's none of my business. I'm not complaining because I'm sure Cooper Mays wants to play football even more than I want to know when he will.

I'm sure the same is true of Pili. The rumor was that his injury was very unfortunate, including the guys giving him a game ball as I recall after he was diagnosed. It's probably not a good injury to have and I feel bad for the kid.

Mays and Pili were 2 of the 3 players I didn't think we could afford to lose. The other was Omari Thomas. Having said that, isn't Pili 25 years old and married? At some point, you have to move on with life. Can't imagine him wanting to redshirt and return again next season.

Again, you're projecting your guilt for the way a player feels due to injury on my previous posts. I never said anything remotely close to what you're trying to insinuate.

I get it. Injuries are an unfortunate part of football. I guarantee Pili wants to play and is doing everything he can to get back ASAP. We as a fanbase have invested a lot of time and some of us money into the program and so curiosity is natural.

We need Cooper back, badly. Lane has reached his peak performance. I appreciate what he has done for the team, but it's obvious he struggles playing out of his natural position. I want nothing more than for Cooper to return and ball out. Same for Pili and all the others who are part of the team but not able to play. I want the Vols to win every game, so knowing when some of our best players may be able to contribute again is natural curiosity at the least. That's why those coaches get asked all the time. That's why Heup jokes about it during press conferences. It's totally normal to ask questions when you're curious. It's still football at the end of the day and not life threatening.

The NCAA has their own set of rules (basically same as HIPAA). It doesn't say jack squat about not discussing timelines or expected return to play. Othersie our coaches would be in hot water. It also doesn't forbid media or the general public from asking when the expected return might be. You're argument is null and void because you're trying to mesh the two together and shame someone for being inconsiderate of someone's feelings. At no point did I ask what Pili's injury was or if he was healing enough to work out or rehab, etc. I only stated I wish there was more clarity on expected return. It's been 4 weeks since his injury, so it's totally normal to ask if he is making progress that might allow a return. I've read speculation about it, but do my best not to post rumors because that's not productive. Of course that's personal. I still don't have a clue what the injury exactly was. Im sure it hurt, and I'm sure he's going to heal enough to live his life and be a productive member of society. It's still just football, so no need to act like his life may be over as he knew it.

The point is it's no longer insider info when a coach discusses the timeline publicly, such as the quote I posted above from Jean-Mary. That's the closest we have got to knowing if/when Pili could return. It's better than guessing, which is what some others ITT had done, so that's why I posted what we have been publicly told to help clarify his status. No need to go on a multi post tirade about it, but carry on with your outrage about a player's feelings if that's what brings you pleasure.

Why do you need to know?
He said specifically that he looked forward to Running through the T and being on the field in Neyland when the crowd was going wild. I would love nothing more than to see Pili play. Not sure why that is so hard for anyone to understand.
