I don't think I've ever seen a QB stand absolutely flat-footed in the pocket as Hooker does sometimes, especially as it's collapsing. No bouncing, no Peyton "happy feet," just standing frozen with heels dug into the ground. I wonder what the coaches think of this. I'd like to see him bail out of there occasionally and either roll right or left and then look for a receiver from outside the pocket ala Bryce Young. Just an observation and Coach Heupel would no doubt burst out laughing at my lack of knowledge.

I've often wondered the exact thing. Many times he could have avoided a sack just by rolling out of the pocket. Trust me, I know less about X's & O's than you do....just my observation. But he's still kicking @$$!! GBO!!

The last game they showed him walk up in the pocket to just throw a TD and the announcers was saying this is what the NFL loves about him.

You apparently don’t notice Milton…

I think that is coaching. CJH's offense tries to make life simple for the QB. By eliminating rigid dropback requirements, along with the small number of pre-snap reads in our fast-paced offense, the QB is able to think less and ball more. Clearly it seems to be working!

He and Milton do it. I suppose they coach that. Either way, it works for them. One’s a heisman candidate and the other could be next year.
^^^This is correct. They are coached that way. It leaves less room for mechanical mistakes. If you watch, their feet change directions as their eyes do coming off one receiver to the next. But it’s straight from “A” to “B” with the feet, no wasted movement. Then, when they get ready to throw it’s a small stride step, fire the hips, and let it fly. These mechanics are great for accuracy.

I have noticed that too. I think its part of what Heupel wants as most QBs arent best throwing the ball. They have kept INTs pretty low in last two seasons, its part Hooker’s accuracy and part scheme to avoid making risky throws; like on the run. Just my opinion.

That’s why he has a tendency to throw high a lot. Not great mechanics, but it’s working so I wouldn’t mess with it.

I think he doesn't roll out very often because it limits his options throwing and running the ball. The offense is designed with the receivers split wide to force the D to defend the whole field. The defense has to defend less than ½ the field if he rolls out.

Milton is the same way. Stands back there like a statue.
