Can someone tell me why they don't have a starter pitch the 9th? I don't understand the thinking sometimes. Tito Francona used to utilize Andrew Miller in the highest leverage situation ...wouldn't that seem to be bases loaded in the 8th inning.

I want to know 2 things:

1) Was Chase Burns available for 1 batter when the bases loaded (and obviously he was not ready but couod he have been ready)??

2) Was Dollander or Lindsey available for 9th inning?

Don't matter what you do if you don't score a run
exactly and then it don’t matter if your hitters can’t hit with the greatest team ever vs notre dame last year. Sad but true. We just need some luck sometimes. A stumble and fumble. We haven’t had that in a very long time and I know it takes a hit on everyone’s mental health. But hang in there. Go vols.

No…you don’t throw Dollander or Burns after yesterday. You can do that in MLB where your guys are getting paid. You protect these guys because they are going to get paid.

Um, because starters aren't relievers? It's an entirely different approach and entality.

1) No.

2) No.

Pitching any of those three on such short rest would almost guarantee that NO top pitching prospect would ever again consider UT. It would show an utter disregard for the health of the pitcher.

You DON'T do that in the majors. No pitcher goes the next day after 50+ pitches.

Yea, I was just saying if it was done. I don’t watch much MLB anymore, but starters have come in to save a game after a day or two of rest in the playoffs. There is more analytics now in the pro game, but college is definitely a no-no.

I think we had many things go our way this year, especially in the playoffs. Baseball is hard. It always feels like it is right there. You are so close! But so is the other guy.....

He doesn't know so he's asking questions. Seems fair enough.
There’s a willful lack of knowledge in this case. If you know what a baseball is, you should be aware that the human arm wasn’t designed to throw it. So you don’t stretch the limits trying to buy an inning. CURIOSITY doesn’t cover this thread, Freak. This was a swipe at the coach hiding behind a “question”.

You're usually better judge of these things than I am. I guess I tend to give folks the benefit of the doubt, to a fault sometimes. If it's a swipe, it's not a very good one.

Kind of like a bad breaking pitch. Lot of wasted effort and not enough on it.

Good point however it’s ok to ask questions and seek improvements! I see a consistently undisciplined team and coaching staff. I’d like to see a good hitting coach work with our team. Talent is not a question, execution is! As in my other post, last night was a very winnable game. We reverted to bad habits in crunch time which points to practice habits and discipline.

Overall, I give TV credit and he has made improvements this year too and hope the trend continues. The potential for him and our program is easy to see! GBO

I don't get to watch many Tennessee baseball games, but have watched a few over the last couple of years, my observation is that they are built as a power hitting team, which is exciting to watch. However, we've all heard the cliche, good pitching beats good hitting. I watched several games of the CWS, and the one thing that stood out was, not a lot of home runs. That stadium is built for base hits and small ball.

If Tennessee hitters approach it that way, they may be more productive at the plate. Don't try to hit it out every at bat, get on, move 'em over, get 'em in.

One other thing I noticed, they would take pitches that were over the center of the plate for strikes, and swing at pitches the were off the plate. Hard to score runs without discipline at the plate.

Nah. I ain't about to question a coach with Tony V's resume. Man can keep on doing it his way because his way is pretty damned good IMO. Just give him the facilities he needs and stay the hell out of his way.
