Good post Voldon, I will only disagree about Carter's defense. She is consistently beaten off the dribble by whoever she guards. Don't know why but it happens often.

I swear I thought I was a lone voice in the wilderness re Carter's defense. None of the LV's, including Carter, can keep an opponent in front of them. I have posted as such in the past and finally shrugged it off as people confusing her athletic talent and ability to read the passing lanes to make steals, with stopping dribble penetration. She cannot do the latter.

She was better last year, but I think her knee is limiting her ability to move on defense. If I'm remembering correctly, she had offseason surgery to fix some issues her knee was giving her.

Sorry I don't post much but here's my two cents....do I like Holly as coach? No! However the lady vols program was going down the last few years with coach summit. Even during the Parker years they won ugly. The offense was horrific. Move ahead post Parker era and the offense was still awful. Don't even get me started on defending the three ball. The lady vols haven't been able to defend the three in years. The problem was that summit should have gotten rid of one her assistants and hired soneone who could coach a damn offense...coach summit was loyal to her assistants which is admirable but ultimately led to the demise of the lady vols.

The most unfortunate part of this is the lack of leadership. Its crazy to fault 18, 19, 20 year old kids for this mess. For the Deshields haters, her shooting percentage is close to where it was in her freshman year @ UNC. If this kid was not scoring we would be in worse shape. A lot of the teams turnovers appear connected to attempts to over passing into the post. Every coaches know what type of players are in and coming to their programs. Sometimes systems have to adjust to take advantage of a players skill sets, vs. forcing the players to fit into a system. Its the difference between instinctual play and reactive play.

I watch the games and the high turnover margin seem connected to the strategy (?)of pounding the ball inside at all costs. Teams know to collapse 2-3 players in the paint. The center is not playing strong enough to overcome double teams and Graves is not getting touches in areas on the floor where she can be effective. The team struggles with what to do after teams collapse - hence jacks @ 2 seconds on shot clock and poor defense. Someone help me remember one situation this year when it started going bad on the floor and the staff was able to stop it with a timely timeout or with a solid play out of a timeout. Coach W seems to struggle with making adjustments in all phases of the game. Its painful when a coach says their team prepared poorly two days straight and it wasn't corrected.
