In the nation here at Tennessee"

#1 in the Nation in recruiting! Is that a sign that it really is possible that he has done that? I know we still have to play the games, and show continuous improvement (with a relentless pursuit, nonetheless), but it appears he might already be ahead of the game.

Who does VN think is the #1 recruiter on the team?

My pick is Tommy Thigpen.

Butch Jones.
But if we're not counting him, Thig is probably the guy. It's close though. Elder, Gillispie, and Coach Z are looking like some top notch recruiters.

People forget, or don't know, CBJ is simply a winner. He knows how to coach and by looking at his previous teams...he can recruit as well. All we did was provide him with a better fanbase, brand and facilities to sell recruits.

I was very skeptical when this guy from Cincinnati said he was going to get the best asst. coaches in the nation and he promptly brings in his Cincinnati staff. I am still not sure they are the best, but the results so far are encouraging.

I think we all need to relax. The same people proclaiming victory now are the same people who, back in February (when we finished 11th in the SEC in recruiting), said we had to wait until he coaches his first game before making any evaluations. I'm thrilled by the commitments thus far, but no one has signed and there's a long way to go until signing day. If we have a bad season, how many recruits jump ship? There's too many variables and too much could happen between now and February 2014.

But it will be nice to refer back to this thread the next time someone argues that we need to give the coaches more time before evaluating.

We need to see where he finishes in recruiting and actually see some games before we go all ga ga over him.

You know, Freak could probably change that username for you. I'm not saying you're wrong, but with a username like that it's hard to take your point seriously...

I'm not trying to be a jerk (some on here say it comes naturally!) but Butch hasn't stayed anywhere long enough to see a full recruiting cycle from him. He's been able to win with a mix of recruits (his and the previous staff's) and that may be a tougher feat.

Some would bring up that he recruited the #1 NFL draft pick but the kid was a "scrawny" lineman project that the big boys didn't want. He was gone by the time the grew into the player he is now.

I like what Jones has done so far at UT, and maybe UT is the canvas to create his masterpiece. I certain hope so.

I disagree, I think we need to do the opposite. I think we have momentum and it's time to get excited and help keep the momentum going.

What CBJ and staff are doing is something very special and they need all the support we can give them. The special coaches like Saban, Myers, and Miles don't come along very often, the kind of coaches that come into a program and turn it around and make it a NC contender.

You have one of these coaches right in front of you, its magic. Its time to get on board and get excited because this is just the beginning of something to be excited about.

Tennessee has been at a all time low the past 5 years and then we hire a coach from Cincinnati that most of us didn't want. He said he would assemble the best staff in the country and most of us where angry when he brought his TEAM of coaches from Cincinnati. We said they will never recruit in the SEC, they will never win games etc..... most of us just didn't believe.

Well open your eyes people, magic is happening right in front of you. Its time to get on board and start pumping some Sunshine !

We have been in the dark long enough.

Curb your enthusiasm until after we go 5-7 this year. Let's not set ourselves up for disappointment. Long way to go. We are rebuilding while everyone else is reloading.

Top recruiters= Jalen Hurd, TKjr

Yea, I know, not "on the staff"...but still...

Why does Vic never get mentioned as a top recruiter? He's the one who got the train rolling fellas! He deserves more credit than what he's given by most I've seen on here.

Also when bUTch was first hired I remember Vic saying something along the lines of,
"Fans might not like the Butch Jones hire, but recruits will." And looks what is happening before our very eyes. Tennessee is literally a sleeping giant about to wake up. It's great to be a Tennessee Vol!

CBJ can do laps around the "Energizer Bunny". It is amazing what enthusiasm, energy and higher expectations translate into verses excuses and blamestorming.

Over the last 4 years he has sent 12 players to the NFL via the draft. And when Fisher finished HS he was listed at 6'7 270. If that's scrawny then I'm a little beotch.
